View Full Version : Maps with Xbox 360

I've gone back and forth about whether I should have gotten the 360 version. Anyone have any idea about how custom maps would or wouldn't be available for 360 players?
I played Team Fortress back when it was orginally modded for Quake and have been looking for this release since then. :) Reading this thread it is obvious that players go for new and different maps (there are some from that original version that I would like to see in this one). I hope MS / Valve appreciate how much a part of this game that has been.
Any old TF players here?

Custom maps, no. They won't be supported by the 360. Any additional maps you'll get for that platform would be in the form of (either free or paid-for) downloadable content (DLC), and will probably be made by Valve themselves or, y'know, folks paid to make maps.
None of that community mapping rigmarole, in short; and also if the 360 gets new maps then it's very likely that the PC version would get the same maps too.

I guess it's obvious I picked the wrong format. If this is the case, I am sure you're right, I can't see the game lasting for the 360 platform. It will get old fast.
Thanks!

I feel bad for the 360 players; they only get 6 maps until VALVe decides (if ever) to make some DLCs. Plus they paid $10 more for it. But I guess 360 fans are used to getting assraped like that.

They said the same thing about CS:S.

That's why I didn't go for the orange box. I prefer the 360 now as we've got greater choice for games, but the orange box is only worth it for HL2, it's Episodes, and Portal.
If you intend to play TF2 then forget it because the reason why TFC was so successful was the maps created by the public. Live is a closed platform and any content submissions have to go through lengthy certification processes by MS before it hits the marketplace. I can't see Valve putting up any user made maps, other than their own ones.
I was going to purchase the orange box on both PC and 360 - the latter because of it's 99 achievements, which look fun to do however I changed my mind at the last minute.

17. However, he may be talking about all achievements in The Orange Box (which is 5 games) and not just TF2. Of course, the PC version of HL2 and HL2:Ep1 do not have achievements, but I bet the 360 versions do.

I can't link to any sites as games webbys are blocked here at work, but yes the 99 achievements are for the whole contents of TOB. The PC achievements I find a waste of time since there is no gamerscore as such, but the 360 ones I know i'll enjoy. Couldn't care less about the score but some achievements can be fun to do so I like the system on the 360.

Waste of time because there is no gamer score? They are a waste of time with a gamer score, since the gamer score means absolutely nothing. Steam's player rating system is better, IMO, because it goes by the amount of time spent playing the games and not how many achievements you've obtained. However, you nullify your "point," if you can call it that, by stating that you don't even care about the gamer score. They are just as fun to do on the PC version, and just as meaningful.
Achievements are like Who's Line is it Anyway; the rules are made up and the points don't matter, but if you're lucky, you get to do a skit with Drew Carry.

I never played the mod Team Fortress, but I played Team Fortress Classic like a hopeless addict for YEARS. I'm just glad that it came out for the 360 at all, because my PC is dead, and there'd be no other way for me to play it.

TFC was successful by itself and that's why maps were made for it. Same with TF2. Even with "just" the standard maps (which in my opinion are all extremely well done) the game is a lot of fun. For a long time.
Out of the thousands of maps that were made for TFC, very few are actually great. Some were good enough to become popular and be played in leagues and such. Maps that never get played do not really make the game more successful than it originally was.
For TF2, mapping has just started. It will take a while until a considerable number of really good maps pop up, that actually make the game more interesting. Currently, while I play custom maps from time to time, I still go back to the official 6 maps cycle servers, because these are just better in every aspect.

Steam's rating system is better? How do you come to that conclusion? Because it rates you according to how much you play? Sorry that is utterly meaningless full stop.
Achievements on the whole for any title let you experience parts of the game you would otherwise forget and just bypass. How many times have you seen players powergame through a title and put it down once complete? Achievements let you experience more of the game then you ever could, but of course PC gamers have yet to experience that. The PC has what two titles that have a gamerscore system, and only one of them actually links up to ones gamertag on Live Anywhere.
Gamerscore is for those wanting to show off how much they've played a group of games. Some people like it, some don't. I couldn't care less tbh, I love achievements but just think they're a waste of time on the PC until Live Anywhere becomes popular - an impossibility in my eyes.

Just how much TFC'ing did you do back in the day? There were heaps of top end custom maps - they made the game even more fun because of the immense variation of tactics that they introduced. Total War, No Mans Land 1 & 2, Darkness, Invictus, Fortsaken, Bases_r, need I go on? They all had a standard of quality that matched or even surpassed what Valve could create.
The only popular valve maps back then were 2forts, Well, Rock2, CZ2 and Badlands. Great maps yes, but imo the custom maps were where a lot of my friends best memories were.

I have it on the pc for the custom maps (which to this point all suck... but eh, its early and they are obviously rushed). I have it on the 360 because i enjoy my big screen and playing with my friends. I hope that valve does package up some of the best user created maps for the 360, but im not holding my breath. Their customer service towards us so far has been non existant.
Im really sick of coming in here and having to trudge through post after post of PC snobs talking about how much the xbox sucks though. I mean jesus christ guys dont you have anything better to do with your time? Some people bought the game for the 360... who effin cares, why do you need to prove to them how much more awesome you are? Its a ????ing videogame.
Im no 360 lover or defender, hell i vastly prefer my ps3 and my pc... but when i come into this XBOX forum im really freaking sick of reading PC snobs posting in every thread.

I can't even get half way through this thread without getting infuriated with pompus Pc gamers and their superior stance.
Yeah, it sucks that I can't get custom maps ... But I knew that was the price I paid for getting it in the most reliable format.
You see, five years from now when I patch my PCs up to the latest OS and subsequently all of this generation's games break ... Theres nothing stopping me from popping my 360 into the TV and just playing away, no questions asked. Hell, people can barely get Bioshock to work on the PC now, let alone five years on >_>
Tbh, you should research what you buy ... If you thought you were going to get custom maps ... Well thats your own fault. With the exception of one or two games (ie. Halo 3, erm ... Farcry?) you can't get Custom Maps on the 360.

Yes, and there were loads of new maps released by Valve for CS:S. There hasn't been any for a while because both Valve and Turtle Rock have been busy on other games.

How about this, we got both. Time played, achievements and the top scores with the characters along with other informations. So how's that worse than the 360? :/

Or there are those who don't give a damn about those petty achievement. Sorry to be so blund but some of the things you would need to do like, Get the Gravity gun. *gasp* I would have missed that if I didn't have achievement. There where lots of others like that, that you normally get by going through the game. I know there are some like, crush every bug in a cave but there are hardly that many that makes the game more enjoyable.
And yes there are those who rush through the game but then there are those who play it through and look everywhere. Which is what I do. Achievements or not. And I have done this with HL2 and Episode 1 and I didn't even had such achievement back then.
As for maps, well right now Valve are working their a** off to actually patch up the game, they have released several updates within just a month and all of them fixing lots of things. Once the game is more stable they will most likely work on maps but right now they are patching the game and maybe they will throw the patch in one go to you 360 users for download. So be patient.
To whoever said to forget TF2 was idiot, sorry but I just can't awoid that comment, it's one of the most enjoyable game I played in YEARS the last one was like BF2142 which I play now and then and I have played lots of games during the year but nothing compares to the power of TF2. I also seen people who hated it but once they gave it some time they started to love it.
Well I hope the map makers make way better maps than they are doing right now. Because those that I have played where not that good and so far I love Dustbowl the most.

The map makers arent the same people who patch the bugs and gameplay balance. One doesn't have to do with the other. Im sure they are working on maps as they do all this other stuff.
But the point of the thread is whether they will be coming to the 360. The answer is yes... the official valve maps will be. Whether they buy the rights to and convert the best user made ones and release them on the 360 is unknown... but all signs point to no.

My PC really isnt that great and i play on low settings to get a smooth frame rate, but I got it for $50 cheaper through steam. So instead of the 100 i got it for 50. (australian)
Otherwise i would have got it for 360, so dont say that all PC gamers say they are superior. Also I really like the 360 controller and i use it for my PC games.

i would hate custom maps on TF2 for 360.
what the hell they would be great the only problem would be that they couldn't be modded because without that your cant make maze like games
but custom maps just to play regular games on would be fantastic and also if they added like a death match sort of game where players j had to kill each other...the custom games would allow you to put in this option perhaps
custom mas should be welcomed by all 360 players because of the limitations that they have and with custom maps it would attract more ppl and the community would increase greatly

Just to add onto your comment, they are in the process of creating new maps some of which have been in development for a long time. Hunted would have probably made release, but apparently they've had some gameplay issues they are working out. Expect new maps within the next couple of months.
