Well im always on steam forums even tho this isnt truely the forum for this question seems to be the only place here to ask.

I'm debating on building a new $1000 computer this jan. or buying a 360 with a nice big lcd screen. i want cod4 and tf2. Do the games run decent on xbox 360 online? or is it lag o rama. I'm more of a league comp. guy. I like the smaller games 4v4 type play. Is there alot of that on there? Has anyone crossed over from the mouse and keyboard to then controller? Just wondering if i will be able to become a skilled player as i am on pc in the 360 world.
I'm just tired of playing the upgrade game. On top of that i work on a computer all day at work. So when i get home i almost hate to even look at my computer desk anymore. I haven't bought a console since dreamcast pso era lol. Plus i have a 3 year old that i want to have something me and him can maybe spend time playing.

I would say 360, as the big lcd would last alot longer than that 1k gaming computer which require annual hardware upgrades to stay current. And the xbox live mic is there for a reason. If your team ain't talking the chances for winning is slim.

So when i get home i almost hate to even look at my computer desk anymore. Another console benfit, power up put in the disc and sit back in your fav. chair/sofa and have a good time.

i would 2nd that a 360 and good tv will outlast a computer, i did the same thing: bought a 360 and a 54" hdtv all for under $800 and the setup rocks i couldn't be happier.

i also was a hardcore pc gamer for 15 years ... i only owned an original playstation and even then i only played mabye 4 games on it total, i was pretty much completely anit-console and i actually bought a new one, it took me mabye a month to fully get the hang of the sticks instead of the mouse but now i can switch between a controller and my roommates pc and have no problem with aiming.

online gaming is a lot different on the consoles, there is more to go wrong. tf2 has some known lag issues, but hell its something you just have to deal with for the convenience of just popping the disc in and being in game in 30 seconds.

and now that that's out of the way lets wait for the plethora of anti-console remarks.

i'm also a broke college student renting a house so dropping money on pc upgrades for me is a little impractical since what little money i have goes to beer, but even if i had a top end computer unless i was using it on my hdtv and surround sound it just wouldnt be worth it ... i guess i'm sick of looking at small screens haha.

I'll add my two cents...

I like not having to upgrade my PC to play the latest games. That's the reason I switched to the 360.

That said, I'm disappointed with valve's support for the 360 version of TF2. IF you have PC hardware capable of running HL2:EP2 and TF2, I'd recommend you get it for the PC even though I'd like have another person to play TF2 on XBL. It seems like the PC support is better. There's been like 6 updates for the PC compared to one for the 360. That may be due to the validation required by MS for an update to be distributed through XBL but it is what it is.

PC'ers also get community maps and up to 32 player games. The xbox360 is limited to the official maps which are getting familiar/old now and it is officially capped to 16 players (sometimes my server breaks out and starts to running up to 24 players). The xbox360 version will only get new maps if valve feels like supplying downloaded content on XBL. I haven't heard of any such plans and given the lack of support, I'm not sure it will ever happen.

If you are a serious PC shooter, you will probably HATE the console two stick mouseless setup. However, it's important to note that it's a handicap everyone plays with so if you are basically a good player, you'll still be good with the sticks.

On the other side, games like Halo 3 seem to have great support so it may not be completely appropriate to take TF2 as the measure of the XBL experience. Plus there are a lot of great titles on the xbox360 that you just drop the disc in and go…

If you get the xbox360 and TF2 look for me online as zoomer4321.

thx for all the info and opinions. I think i'm gonna go throw one in layaway this week. got my xmas bonus coming plus got my old ds sold for 40 bucks so i might take that and some money from my bonus throw down on it heh.
jan. get me a nice big lcd or hd tv to put in my spare room. Like the one post i've been hardcore pc since quake era. But i think i'll probly get the hang of using the joysticks back in goldeneye days i did lol. just i think a xbox will be better for me. i can get games me and my son can share time playin and still maybe stay at a clan comp. level. i want to get tf2 and cod 4 with it. my buddy at work him and his son play cod4 online and love it. he said he loves it cause like with any pc game, he said everyones on the same playing field no one has a better mouse, no one has a 6k machine that out performs yours and gives a advantage. he said the games not bad online not laggy or anything.

so i think ill go throw one in layaway tomorrow lol just so i dont have a hard time finding one. thx guys.

oh and by the way my buddy for his xbox used to have this off brand controller for the old xbox. It was a fps controller had two long handles and two analogs right across from each other. i had used it twice for his halo lans him and other guys i know used to have i liked that controller the best do they have one like that for 360? i can't remember the name of the controller.

i also seen they have a mouse and keyboard add-on for 360 lol but all reviews say its skips and stuff. plus u would have to feel dirty using that against people with controllers.

xbox live is a very good online system, some games lag, but the majority aren't too much of a problem, TF2 can get very laggy but in a ranked match or 8-player game is fine.

With a 1000$ Computer you should at least last 3 years with it. The Xbox 360 already can't play some of the games it get on max and Max effect is the game that pushes that hardware to the limit and it will cause some graphic bugs.

I'd go with a PC because both TF2 and COD4 players better on a PC plus you can get Gears of War to PC to and it will have more stuff and look better.
You will be able to play Crysis and Farcry 2 and the rest of the new games that comes out.

Yes the Xbox 360 might get some games that PC don't get but PC will still get the major titles.

The TV will last for quite some time thou but the 360 won't compared to a PC.

One last thing. TF2 on the PC prolly got a lot of more users plus it gets supported a lot more than the 360 version.

So you are saying the PC doesn't get majour titles? "riiiight, lol"

I would go with the PC. A 1 Grand rig is going to last you for a few years. On top of that PC Online gaming is far better. Dedicated servers, custom maps and gameplay, and not to mention you don't have to suffer and learn a slow analog Dpad. I'm a PC player and i bought a 360 about 6 months ago. After playing my fair share of FPS on the console I'd rather play FPS on a PC. Don't get me wrong the consoles are fun and all but they are only good for Party games.

only good for party games!!! whatever...i grew up playing consoles and to upgrade a PC is a lot of money. MY opnion is the PC is great but nothing compared to the next-gen consoles, sure the PC may have more sci-fi games, but I just can't get THAT into it, just four or five games.

if you want COD4 and TF2 then i think 360 is the way to go

PC has all the major titles of the console games, and the exclusive ones like Crysis. Also, if you build the computer yourself, you can get an excellent gaming computer for a considerably low price, which means that you wont need to upgrade every year.

Consoles are toys, they play games. Computer's can do everything, and play games at a higher frame rate with better controls.

if you want COD4 and TF2 then i think 360 is the way to go

You realize that Valve is a PC developer right? So saying that "if you want TF2 go with xbox" is a competely ignorant comment, seeing how TF2 is extremely laggy on the 360 and on the PC version it runs silk smooth. Also, Call of Duty 4 is on the PC as well, with no glitches at all, and runs great on mid range computers.

I hope that some of you realize how much of a horrible investment buying a console is.

Major titles on Consoles

Mass Effect, Halo 3, MGS4 and possible some of the FF series.

Major titles on the PC

Farcry 2
Crysis
Mass Effect(it doesn't run that good on the 360 so it's bound to be on the PC to show off more stuff)
Starcraft 2
Diablo 3(I'm sure it will come.)
GTA4
Battlefield Series
Half-Life Series(they will be supported way more to.)

And more that I can't think off.

most major PC titles like Battlefeild, GTA4 was announced for the 360 first as a 360 only title(not anymore), Half-Life is on consoles aka The Orange box is a major 360 title, Ubisoft has shown a lot of interrest in making FC2 for consoles, but maybe you just haven't noticed the large amount of games, but this isn't the thread to talk about in, we are getting too off-topic.

FC2 for console :D you crack me up, even Crysis isn't able to run on either of those two consoles, what makes you think a more powerfull game will run on them? Specially on the Xbox 360 when it have problem with games like Mass Effect? XD

It might run on the PS3 due to it's design but I doubt it will be on the 360 and play nicely. Maybe on low settings or medium if lucky.

Sorry but you will at least have to wait for PS4 or Xbox 720 if you wanna play it on consoles without having big problems.
Yes Half-Life is for console now but the PC gets more support. Plus Mouse+keyboard>gamepad.
GTA4 is going to be on console but it's going to be better on the PC due to that you can make it look better. I already read that it would be pretty limited on the 360 due to the harddrive.
BF series only have had one game so far on the console and it was drastically changed to a run and gun gameplay unlike what it should be.

No we are not getting offtopic. I'm giving good reason to pick a 1k$ PC over a 360 when all those titles are going to be played BETTER on the PC than the console.
