This is a unique and special place. Follow the rules so we can keep it that way. Otherwise... ashes to ashes and dust to dust.

Rule 1: The Steam forum rules are in full effect here (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=351). That said, since we want this place to stay open, I'll repeat them for your benefit:

Make sure you are posting constructive criticism, whether it's negative or positive. Contrary to what some people believe, we do take feedback from here into account.

Notice: Administrators/Moderators reserve the right to change/edit/delete any content at any time they feel it is inappropriate.

I. General Forum Rules:
Do not:
- Flame or insult other members.
- Bypass the swear filter or other filters.
- Post personally identifiable information (i.e. name, address, birthday, email, phone number, etc.)
- Bump old threads unless you have a good reason.
- Post spam or make pointless posts that don't contribute to a thread (+1 10char, rickrolls, etc.)
- Openly argue with a moderator. Contact the Moderator via a private message.

II. The following topics are strictly off limits:
- Porn, gross stuff, or anything else not safe for work
- Piracy, warez
- Cheating, hacking, game exploits
- Leaked content
- Posting copyrighted material such as magazine scans
- Soliciting, auctioning, selling, advertising
- Referrals
- Drugs, alcohol
- Religious, political, and other “prone to huge arguments” threads

III. No Backseat Moderating:
Let the Forum Moderators do the moderating. Backseat Moderating is when people who are not Moderators try to enforce the forum rules. Whenever you see a person breaking the rules, take advantage of the "Report this post to a moderator" link. Or simply IGNORE the offensive post(s) or thread. The most common backseat reply is the "+1 in before lock" phrase. Backseat moderating is annoying, and it's kind've pointless.

Report Post to the Moderators:
Should you observe a fellow forum member breaking these rules please report the post by clicking the Report Post button "http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/v_images/buttons/report.gif" located to the left of every post, or if that feature is unavailable feel free to contact any of the Forum Staff (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showgroups.php).

That covers a lot of it. What's left?

Rule 2. Think Before You Create A New Thread Or Post A Reply.
This is probably the most crucial rule there is. Things to think about just before you create a new thread:

“Does this abide by the general forum rules?”
“Is this thread appropriate, interesting, and allow for open discussion?”
“Could this offend other members?”

If any of these seem unclear to you, ask a member of the web staff before posting. Do not post and wait for a reaction. We will answer you as soon as we can with either a yes or no.

Rule 3. No Country Bashing, Racism, Sexism, etc.
Respect other poster’s beliefs, rights and values. Do not flame-bait, instigate or encourage starting arguments regarding these issues. If such issues are being discussed in a hostile, degrading or undignified way, the thread will be closed and justice will be dealt to the offending posters.

Rule 4. Pleading Ignorance. Aka. The “Costanza Defense”
This will not get you off the hook.

Example:

Boss: I'm going to get right to the point. It has come to my attention that you and the cleaning woman have engaged in sexual intercourse on the desk in your office. Is that correct?

George: Who said that?

Boss: She did.

George: Was that wrong? Should I have not done that? I tell you I gotta plead ignorance on this thing because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing was frowned upon, you know, cause I've worked in a lot of offices and I tell you people do that all the time.

Boss: You're fired.

George: Well you didn't have to say it like that.

Boss: I want you out of here by the end of the day.

George: What about the whole Christmas spirit thing? Any flexibility there?

Boss: Nah.

Rule 5. No Negative Comments Or Discussions About Other Members.
We do not want to see open discussion or gossip about your dislike for a particular member of the boards. If you have a problem with another member, contact a member of the web staff. That way we can mediate between both parties if there are problems.

Rule 6. Do NOT discuss moderator actions.
You don't like something? PM a mod. Period.
