I've seen some questions on how achievements work, so this should help clarify:
Ninja Reflex has 4 save slots. This enables up to 4 people to have their own character on the same computer, as well as to facilitate local multiplayer games. But it's important to understand that Steam doesn't differentiate between the save slots. What this means is that once you unlock an achievement, it's unlocked for good and regardless of what save slot you were playing on.
So, if you're sharing the game with more than one person, you should pick a save slot and stick to it. Otherwise you'll inadvertently "steal" gem and belt rank achievements. To illustrate, if Bill logs onto Steam, makes a character, and earns the first 3 belt rank achievements, and then signs out, but then Joe logs onto Steam and plays Bill's character, he'll steal Bill's 4th belt rank achievement, and Joe will have a gap on his first 3.
Also, if you play the game without a net connection, we've found that Steam will sometimes not update achievements you've unlocked. So to be safe, if you care about accurate achievement tracking, I recommend playing only when connected.
