Hey forumers! I got another question for all you geniuses.

I've been reading as much as I can about textures, but there are still so many questions I have about them. They are getting very frustrating. Couple things...

1. How do I put a texture on just part of my wall. Right now my texture will cover an entire wall. E.G. - I want to put a BLU logo on a wall, but whenever I click the wall it places many logos or just one big one.

2. This one may be similar or the same as the above problem. When looking at other maps, like 2fort for example, it seems that a lot of the walls and ground areas of the map doesn't have repeating textures, or even one gigantic version of the texture. How do they add detail to the dirt or one side of the wall?

3. I have a wall that is made up of multiple brushes. (This is because there's a door in it). I would like to put in a texture (the white concrete one with the blue outline on the bottom) that would fill it as if it were just one wall. However, after I select all the brushes of this wall and apply the texture, I get multiple blue lines for each brush face and it just looks rediculous.

There are some other texture problems I've been having, but this is just a start. If there's a good detailed site (other than the valve developer community) that I can refer to, that would be great and you nice people wouldn't have to waste your time explaining. Again, I have no problem reading this stuff and learning it, but I've tried so much and still can't figure out texturing.

Thanks for the help!

Use the texture tool (the green block).
Here you can resize and move the texture.

Use overlays (Shift + O) for the RED/BLU logos (overlays/logo_red_white and overlays/logo_blue_white) that you will place on walls. This allow you to move it and resize.
Some textures have a blends which are used on displacements. They will alter between two textures based upon areas that you "paint" the alpha mask.
Use the texture application tool (Shift + A) to select the faces you want to texture. Make sure "Treat as one" is selected on the dialog box.

Awesome, logos work and I can now place specific textures without them stretching or multiplying. Here's a problem, however, with a couple of my walls.

Don't know if you can see that well or not, but the right wall is made up of three brushes. I clicked the treat as one button and used the texture that has the white concrete wall with the blue outline on the bottom. Hwoever, when I click the wall, or apply texture, this is what I get. The wall has multiple blue outlines in the middle and I just want a little blue on the bottom. Also, on the left wall the texture has been stretched so that half the wall is blue instead of a little bit of the bottom. Any ideas?

Thanks!

In the face edit dialog box, there is a section labelled "texture scale". Select the stretched faces, and make sure both "x" and "y" values are set to the default scale of 0.25.

If the texture does not line up with the wall correctly, adjust the numbers in the "texture shift" section. You can also quickly align a texture with an already placed one. Using your picture as an example, left click on your left wall, then right click on the pieces of your right wall (whilst the face edit dialog is open, of course). This will clone the texture settings of the first wall to the second.

I hope that made some sense. If not, just say so, and i'll try to clarify.
