For issues where the game isn't starting at all (you don't see a PlaneD logo appear) see the following link:

Steam Support (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=4595-WEXN-6831)

You will also want to make sure your antivirus isn't interfering. THis is a problem with some AV programs, especially one called NOD32. Eternity's Child is absolutely not a virus, but steam executables use a type of encryption that can sometimes trigger false positives. There is effectively nothing I nor Valve can do about this issue, except to rewrite the code and hope it doesn't trigger a different false positive.

----
If the game crashes when you click a button, or immediately after loading any level, add the following to Eternity's Child.ini , in steamapps\common\eternitys child

Find the line near the end that says [Gamepad]
Underneath it, add a line saying disabled= true

Note: This is not likely to be your problem any more, with any of the patches applied.

----

If you are running multiple monitors, and the game is for some reason detecting the wrong default resolution, and can't load, open up Eternity's Child.ini , in steamapps\common\eternitys child, and then change the line that says
resolution= desktop (it may be something else if you've configured this before)
and change it to say
resolution= 800x600 (or a different resolution you prefer)

----
Other issues:

Always make sure your video drivers are up to date. This is the cause of most weird problems.

If you can't move the mouse cursor in game (but it works fine in menus), try unplugging your gamepad/joystick, or disabling it. The controller's movement axis may not be properly centered, and the game thinks you're trying to control the cursor with that, instead of the mouse.

If all this fails, email your engine.log file (in the same directory mentioned above) to support@silverspherestudios.com
If you don't have an engine.log file, the game isn't being run, and you need to try the tips in the first section of this post again.

This is a solution for anyone who has problems. This might help some users who had similar anti virus problems.

Hm okay, I got a solution. I use ESET Smart Security as an antivirus program but it doesnt seem to act very smart concerning the .exe files of the game. When I download them it just deletes them without a warning... found it out when i tried to launch it without Steam. There were no .exes in there ^^

I added the whole steam folder to the exceptions and now it works because the program doesn't even scan the folder. Hope that this solves this problem for some more users.

Best regards

It looks like one of Avast's (http://www.avast.com/) newer updates is causing it to see EC as a Virus now. It's pretty easy to make it ignore false positives using the "Exclusions" section of the program settings, though. Adding the .EXE to the list will cause it to skip over the folder completely while scanning.

Edit: Every time I try to run the game, it tells me it's not available, even when Avast doesn't pop up. I'm not sure if this is related to the false positive problem or if Steam is just acting funny.

Edit 2: It is related to Avast. In order to play the game without getting the "not available" message, I have to shut off Avast's on-access protection.

You just need to download the files again (verify cache) once you've excluded it. I found I had to exclude the exes specifically as well as the folders with and without trailing \, in both the on-access protection exclusion list and the other exclusion list you can also access from the program settings (although forget which it is and cannot check on this PC). Only after adding about 6 entries to both of those (some for the demo too) did it finally stop acting like the darn file was a virus.

Just dowloaded from steam and the start up page is a pixalated mess of coloured blocks. Tried changing the resolution but with no luck.
Any advice appreciated.

We need to know your specs. It could be a driver issue. Have you tried verifying the integrity of the game yet? If all else fails just reinstall it.

Just downloaded the demo, and it seems to be playing really fast - the hearts on the menu screen are falling like rain and the wings on the heart beat like a hummingbird. When I changed some settings, it asked me to confirm for about two seconds, then I get an error message saying that since I didn't confirm within 15 seconds (?!), it reverted - only instead, it made the demo crash.

My specs are as follows:

Windows XP Pro, SP2
AMD Athlon 64 5600+ dual core
2 GB RAM
GeForce 8800 GTS

EDIT: figured out the problem - this game (or at least the demo) is not written to take advantage of dual core processors. I had to go into my task manager and manually change the process affinity to only use one core.

Joshua will look into it I tried it on a dual core and it worked fine, he will know better than me

I'm thinking it's a problem with something in my hardware more than this specific game (like maybe OpenGL doesn't like working with AMD processors or something), since two other games that I run have this same problem.
