i dont like new Activision politique " if you want my games pay 10 euros more "...
Or is it Wolfenstein or COD 6 better games than the rest of titles like Dragon Age, Borderlands, L4D, Red Faction, Operation Flashpoint...
The case of Quantum of Solace, 50 euros forever, for me is the worst game to buy in Steam...
Draek
10-30-2009, 09:51 AM
Quantum of Solace is only $19.99 here in Chile, though, which all in all is a fairly decent deal. If you wanna complain I'd suggest doing so with Activision's European division, who seem to be the incompetent/greedy ones here.

Maybe if Activision had been a little less greedy & did 50% off, but they have to try to get as much as possible from a 2 year old game that should be cheaper by now anyway. I think I'll pass.

$3 more savings isn't that big of a deal. Seriously you people complaining about this are silly. This thread has asked for a CoD4 sale for months, and when they finally do it, you people cry that it's not enough.
That's when you need to realize they didn't have to do this sale AT ALL. I'll never understand how some people's brains work.

i'm scared about the possibly price of Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2, two games of Activision Blizzard in Europe...
60 euros Diablo 3
60 euros Starcraft 2 x 3 Chapters = 180 euros
Activision my prefered company!!!

This. I mean, seriously, some people are complaining in the CoD forum about how greedy Activision is being here for making it *ONLY* 40% off, while others are saying they won't pay a dime over $15. And if I searched a bit more I'm sure I could find one or two who demand a $10 price before purchasing it.
Me, I bought it, even though I already finished the game on my brother's retail version but I wanted to play MP. And I know this is gonna make me a lot of enemies here but... while its not a bad game, WaW was certainly the superior one, IMHO. Still, its fairly fun for $24, recommended for anyone who wants an arcade-style FPS with great graphics and a decent story.

Steam NOOB here...
Can anyone recommend a RSS feed to add in my reader for steam deals?
Akudama89
10-30-2009, 03:40 PM
I'm confused as to why people are complaining about the price on CoD4, the steam price (at least in USD) is the typical price around
for instance, on amazon, COD4 is 49.99, COD4 GOTY is 39.99, steam is 39.99, on sale for 23.99, it's not steams fault that activision is pretty strict about their prices...

Stop with the typing fail.
It's nearly have the price it still is at retail here so indeed this IS a deal. People have begged on steam for this deal for months, and when you get it, it's just not enough. If you can't afford $23 for a great game, then you should probably change your hobby.
Stop with the typing fail.
It's nearly have the price it still is at retail hereWhy do people insist on lecturing others on typing and then "fail" at both spelling and grammar themselves? Seriously, stop it, you've made me resort to the same thing and besides, those in charge don't like it either.
Anyway, I suppose in some territories this is a good transaction to make. Here in the UK you can buy the game at Play.com for less (without the aid of a temporary deal), though Amazon sells it for considerably more. If you shop around both online and off you can most certainly pick it up for under ten pounds, thus rendering the Steam price pointless from the word go.
So yes, it's not the worst deal in the world, but a 40% reduction isn't quite as brilliant as it sounds. Also, the fact the game is two years old and still sells for this price indicates three things:
CoD4 is rather lovely to play, even now.
Many people continue to pay over the odds.
Activision are greedy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s.
ETA:
If you can't afford $23 for a great game, then you should probably change your hobby. It doesn't always come down to what one can afford. Some users are merely shrewd enough to look elsewhere for a cheaper price.

It was on the Steam store for £2.49 in the UK. About what, 4-something dollars?
Games I'd like ot see on offer (although really it's personal choice!) are Call Of Duty 2 and CS: Source. I don't mind paying full price for CS:S, but Call of Duty 2 has been out 4 years now, and it's a little hard to justify purchase at £14.99.:)

I will pass all these sales too.
TF2 2h sales were awesome and i would buy one for my cousin, but every single time i missed it by less than 10min. Just my luck i guess.
Stalker is a good deal, but i already bought it "for 50% off" without "50% off" in store. LOL i complicated. Normal price for this game was 11€ - without any sort of discounts in a local store.
COD4 - lol i can get it just now (ok maybe tommorow lol since today is sunday) for 24€ without any discounts.
For me buyining from Steam price has to be much lower from retail. Why? Because nowdays i buy CHEAPER games in stores and i can GIVE/SELL them away after i dont use them anymore.
I will continue to check weekend deals, but since most of the "deals" are either 50% higher price compared to $, or are still way pricier than retail stores i usually pass.

Dammit. On one hand, $10 for Mass Effect is an amazing deal, it was easily worth the $40 I paid for it retail and $10 for the convenience of replaying it without looking all over my place for the DVD is a perfectly justifiable expense IMHO.
On the other, however, I *was* tempted by the pre-order of Dragon Age: Origins (due for release tomorrow here), and any purchase I make makes buying DA:O a more painful prospect.

Nation Red: It is not complicated and not the best game, sometimes it is even frustrating, but fun to play and has the best developing team around these days. I mean they updated and still updating the game using our recommendations... What else to say? Your money goes to the right place if you buy this one...
Mass Effect: A real AAA+ title with awesome graphics, movie like story and gameplay. Oh, and don't forget this really cheap price. This game worths a lot of more money! One of the best RPG-s around.
So the best solution is to get both... Case closed. ;)

If you mean suggestions about whether or not to get the game: Get it.
If you mean suggestions about the game itself: Don't pick Engineer as your class the first time you play.
I grabbed a copy for a friend who's been wanting to try it for a while now.
Ahaha did you choose Engineer first up as well? Some parts were fairly difficult with only the pistol.
Excellent game. This is one of those "if you don't have it, why the bloody hell not?" games. I'm no RPG fan and I loved this game. Played through it three times so far and it ranks as one of my best value for money games. There are some bad bits of course (poor user UI, uninspiring side missions, poorly done graphics here and there etc.) but on the whole, an excellent game. Oh, did I mention there was full frontal nudity (according to Fox News) :).

Ahaha did you choose Engineer first up as well?
Infiltrator, actually. Running Engineer now, with Sentinel the only class I haven't tried yet (although I never did finish my Vanguard run).
Never had any problems maining Pistol, though. My recommendation had more to do with the fact that, in general, the Engineer has roughly the offensive prowess of a salad, and the defensive prowess of a lightly-armored salad with a respectable shield bonus.

I was really hoping they'd make Vampire: Bloodlines cheap for Halloween. They did it for the last two years, why not this year.If they do it again this year there should be a disclaimer at the bottom of the page about not entering the Vampire: Bloodlines forum. It's turned into quite a squabble lately with both unofficial 'patch makers' on there throwing their toys out of the pram.

^ That's true, but in all fairness, it's the maker of the so-called "true patch" mod, that consistently causes trouble on all forums, not just here. And I for one will never enjoy playing that game thanks to them.
And who knows, maybe next week we'll finally get a decent non-region restricted deal.
Well, I suppose the drama that unfolds is entertaining in a car-crash kind of way ;)

Just gonna go out there and say it - get Shattered Horizon.
This is far better than some tech demo like Farcry. It's solely multiplayer, and has a lot of depth. Total 360 combat, with enemies coming from anywhere. It really feels like you are in space. And remember - in space, no one can hear you scream.
It's a really good game for 20 bucks.

the real question i have is if they release the second encounter will i get slightly screwed over by them making a "bundle" that would have made it cheaper just to buy the bundle
now, if it's like a year away release from the first one i wouldn't mind that but they are saying the second encounter isn't far off on release from the first encounter (which i would assume considering it looks like many screenshots are from the second encounter)

After they finally released the patch it is pretty good. Before the patch it was an absolute disaster. Endless loading screens, missing textures, crashes... Did I say endless loading screens? It was almost comical. To be honest, I am not sure how they weren't sued as the game was literally unplayable for about a half year. Their official fix was to tell everyone to set their computers to start with only 2gigs of ram. lol, idiots!
BTW, as usual, the Steam price is ridicules. You can find it much cheaper elsewhere. I waited for Steam to drop the price and they never did. So I finally just bought it elsewhere. Good job on losing a sale Steam.

Actually it had a 30% off weekend deal ages ago. Before the so called 'credit crisis' when the Aussie dollar was riding as high as the price.
I have no idea what I want this weekend. Midweek madness has three games already! Lately I've been trying to limit my expenditure but it seems Valve does not like this.
Is it me, or has CoD4 been permanently put on sale in the AU/NZ region? (i.e. the game is still 40% off.)

I have Warhead already on my Steam account, and played through my brothers copy of the original a while before that.
I'm not really interested in this deal either. Although I would recommend both games to somebody that's not played them. However you have to play through the game on the 'Delta' setting or it's just a run of the mill, mindless shooter. Delta basically forces you to use the suit powers and it's a lot more fun.

It would have been 20$ for both of them or 15$ each, guess they didn't like that, but at least 25$ for both of them or 15% each would have been nice, oh well, i already own both the games so :P

Crysis Maximum Edition - $39.99, was $59.98
So no it's still not technically half

Another deal I will be passing on as I was gifted them ages ago when the UK price was half that of the price for Japan.

Weirdly enough, despite the fact that in the US they discounted everything 50% off, both the individual games and the pack, here in Chile they discounted everything by $15 instead. Same end result for the individual games, each at $15, but it means the pack with both costs... $45. Riiiight. Ahh well, I expect to see that corrected later today.
Anyways, dunno if I'll buy this one. On one hand, I already played through it on my brother's computer and, while it was a nice FPS all things considered, it wasn't that revolutionary either. Plus, it has that horrible, *horrible* SecuROM rootkit included. On the other, it *is* a fairly low price for a high-budget FPS, a genre I've been particularly starved of lately, I've been wanting to try its multiplayer, and if anything else it serves as a fairly demanding benchmark for my hardware.

mmm crysis have drm limit activation correct?
Jeroen873

I believe EA has provided a tool in the past that can remove the activation limit. Not sure if that also applies for these games though.

11-12-2009, 10:41 AM
The price was just mostly fixed for the Crysis deal in the UK, they are now 9.99 each and £19.98 for the pack so you save nothing by buying the pack.

Too bad that even at this price the game is still more expensive than the retail version. Plus the retail version has also the 64 bit version of the game, unlike the Steam version whitch only has the 32 bit. Ohh, and don't forget to mention the 5 limit activation DRM.
Oh well, at least there is finally a Crysis deal, but I will pass for sure...

I just noticed it by accident after trying to see what Overlord: Raising Hell was. (Doesn't seem to list it as an expansion pack like most normal expansions.)
Not interested in the series, but it's a fairly decent discount. (The pack is also cheaper than Overlord II, my head hurts.)

Because it's not that great of a deal. I could get it elsewhere for cheaper.
Granted, I would be willing to pay for the Steam convenience of being able to download and install anywhere I wanted. However, with SecuRom still there, that convenience is less enticing.

Why? many game reviewers did call it a revolutionary game, that took the genre to the next level and blah blah blah, same thing they've said about every big-name FPS published during the last few years. I am, then, entitled to having felt dissapointed at what was essentially Far Cry just with more shinies and less moronic mutants (sorry, "aliens").
Anyways, bought the Overlord deal, it looks fun and for less than $9, it's hard to go wrong with it.

Exactly, give the reviewers some eye candy, tons of hype and perhaps some other incentives and they will sing hosannas over every blockbuster title that the developers really want to sell well.
Lots of "revolutionary" games are actually backwards. The recent major "omgitsellsmillions" FPS included.

Deary me, CoD4 and Crysis have been the most called for weekend deals in this thread and people still complain about them? CoD4 was only 40% off = rage, so we get a 50% off Crysis deal, people still pass the deal up. Seriously, is there a hole in your buckets?
There is no way I'm going to pass up on either deal. Hmmm, this doesn't exactly leave me with much for L4D2.

Bought the Overlord pack ASAP. Something is wrong with this one... Remember the Oblivion deal when the game's price doubled from one day to another?
Now in this one, Overlord 2 is €49.99 only itself, and the full overlord pack is €8.75 discounted FROM €34.99 for me. Something is REALLY wrong with the pricing. I say buy it until you can, this may get fixed soon...

They just change the price for Overlord 2 from 49,99€ to 29,99€. So with 75% that's 7,5€. Overlord 1 now costs 5,99€ normally.
I'm guessing the package price is the right price.

That is a great price for the Overlord pack but not sure I will get it. I bought Overlord 1 retail earlier this year and got bored after a few levels. Its a fun game but didn't have enough to hold my attention all the way through. Also tempted with the Crysis pack. Too many games not enough time and I am determined to finish GTA4 almost a year after I bought it.
