most xbox 360 games don't have any kind of integrated text-based messaging system. you're forced to use voice chat (typing out a message on the 360 takes ages.)

Get the messenger kit with the Keyboard. A pretty good investment if you play with a lot of friends and it works for any text field in any game.

... a "shame"? lol, I think it's a shame that any gamer thinks they can get by w/ texting during a game, a headset can be picked up for just a few bucks, almost any old school cell phone headset will work, and the 360 COMES with a headset. So quit fearing a little socializing and plug in a headset.

the problem with that is that some people online are not worth socializing with. people that think their headsets are for spitting out racial slurs, or making so much noise that no one can hear each other.
