Does this actually have 'servers' per se? Seems like it's just hosting-based. Anyway I'd be more than willing to play sometime, as would a friend who also has this.

Also there's a group for the game on Steam so you can get everyone who owns it on your friends list:

Buccaneer is currently player hosted - anyone can start up a server using the multiplayer options. Unfortunately most people who want to play online don't seem to want to run a server, that's why there are none running a lot of the time. Personally I find that whenever I start up a server players begin to join within just a couple of minutes, and I try to run one whenever I get time (it's been a bit hectic these past couple of weeks in the evenings, but I'll try to get some games up next week).
At the moment there are no dedicated servers, but this may change in the near future.

Well as much as i liked the demo for Buckaneer, I'm not going to buy the game as long as there aren't any dedicated multiplayer servers up on a regualar basis.
Please post it here if that changes -- as I've subscribed to this thread. thanks :)

Yes it supports dedicated servers. Yes there are some dedicated servers - I'm running two online 24/7, "PursuitOfInfamy.com Server 1" and "PursuitOfInfamy.com Server 2". I'm also working on a dedicated server admin application, but I'm not sure how long it'll be before I can release a beta as I don't have much time to work on it.
Running a dedicated server with the Steam version is easy though - create a new icon for the game and add
-dedicated -mission buccaneer/data/missions/mm_whitetooth.mis
to the end of the command line. That will start up the dedicated server with the Whitetooth Bay map selected in the lobby. When joining the server if nobody is "host" then it will ask if you want to be the host - the host is the person who selects the map and settings for the game during the session.
I don't frequent the Steam forums much - if you're interested in running dedicated servers catch me on the forums at http://www.pursuitofinfamy.com/forum where my nick is Spack.
