This feature would be rather simple to implement as it shouldn't be too much of a stretch from the current time recorded for the past two weeks. This feature doesn't have to replace the 'past two weeks' time, but it would be a nice addition. I used to use xfire a lot and that keeps track of your total time played for basically every and any game you run, but since I've stopped using it I began to miss that feature. I mainly just play games on Steam nowadays anyhow, so the addition of this feature to Steam would cement xfire's death on my computer and possibly on others' computers as well.

I don't know why general info like this isn't available in your community screen. Maybe it be added later.

It's likely that time tracking for non-Steam games will be supported in the future.
It's unlikely that you will have the ability to associate or import/export data between X-Fire and Steam.
But nothing new...

I'm not necessarily concerned with importing/exporting data between Xfire and Steam. I would rather just be able to see a cumulative total time played for each game in my Steam account instead of only time played over the last two weeks.

I agree, I also would like to see total playing time for all my steam games.
i want it that if i go to my steam profile and i click view all games, that next to the game it says : played x hrs the past two weeks AND played x hrs in total AND on the main page you played X hrs in total for all your games.
JOKE*that way you can brag about how much time you wasted playing games*JOKE

:( It's too bad they don't have this, I'm really curious how much time I've wasted in total, but I shall never know.

I was just talking about this with my pal some minutes ago. Yeah, this would be a pretty cool feature, I hope more people reply to this post so maybe we get some attention, our money is the one that keeps Steam alive after all :D

Valve has shot this down pretty consistently every time it's suggested.
From a community standpoint, how would it be useful?

From a community standpoint, how would it be useful?
Because people like seeing their total time played?

Well, that's a pitty. :(
From a community standpoint, how would it be useful?
Because it's fun, entertaining, time-killing, etc. And guess what, that's why we play video games.
So it's useful, because the community is more entertained, thus, more happy. :)

You could also ask whether the current time played in the last two weeks is usefull. You could better see if people are really experienced in a game or just got it a week ago and it's simply interesting, though there should be an optipon to hide/disable it.

Play time in the last two weeks is useful for the community because you can see what games your friends have been playing a lot of recently, and which games they have been ignoring.

I didn't said that I don't like the play time in the last two weeks beeing displayed, I just meant that I also think that the total time played beeing showed would be nice.

I think total time spent playing games would be cool , but does it have anyway of knowing when you just have it paused. I mean most of the games I have bought lately don't turn off the timer within the game when paused. This is done IMO to trick you into thinking the game is actually longer than it is. Many of my old games give actual play time. That is what I would be interested in, not the total time the thing was paused when for example the water pipes burst, you hit the pause key and then you spent 8 hours working on the pipes while the game was paused. You get created with 10 hours, the two you played and the 8 on pause.
