What are the chances of me getting a refund, I have not been able to install, getting stuck at 93% for 2 day's now, after trying all the solutions that have been shown to me, it's still not working,,I'd like a refund

Getting stuck into "download starting..." at 93% was caused by my file type being FAT32, not NTFS. Convert it to NTFS and that should help.

I have done that and am now starting to download for the 5th time, the updating bar isn't going along but the % is going up slowly, I was pulling 700kb's before my format to ntfs now I'm getting 200kb/s, if i change my download location it starts from the beginning, looking at a 13hr download this time, I want a refund, unless it works this time :(

I have tried for hours to get my ETW game to run. It keept crahsing when I was loading it. My Desktop Res was set to 1680x1050. I lowered it to 1280x800 then bam it worked. I also had to change the game settings to med to get it to run wothout crashing. It knda sucks running the game in Med settings when I have a super Computer, but atleast I am able to play. I have played the game for several hours without any problems. I hope this helps,

Any known fixxes on the way for Vista 64 or ATI. I have an ATI 4850., I have a I7 Intel, 3giigs of DDR3 , I have the latest drivers and I can not set my settings above Med without the game crashing. I see there has been a few isues with NVIDA and other users are having problems with there Vista 64. Are these being looked at? Thanks,

Sounds like a video card problem, yours is athe the absolute bottom required. What operating system have you got, how much RAM and have you updated all your drivers?

Also I just checked Intels support page and it says that your chipset only handles 256mb of video RAM... you say you've got 286? sounds like a funny number...

I would suggest looking at a Nvidia 9800 series or an ATI 4800 series

Steam distribute the game. It was the developers that chose them, and they are the ones who tested the game, not Steam. Steam are doing Steam's thing, and they do it well.
I've been with steam since the start, and personally have never ONCE had a problem that was their fault(other then when servers are overloaded, but that's part and parcel of downloadable content, i don't care where you go for that).
Big ups for steam! They also make it VERY hard for pirates without impacting on game performance (i'm looking at you secure-rom!), and allow you to download any and all of your games on any computer.
Like i say, they distribute and provide a certain service. it is the responsibility of the developer to sort out the rest.

In regards to Empire's launch, most of the problems i've read about are not related to Steam. Steam problems are usually resolve pretty bloody quick if they DO have problems (i believe there was a patch in the first couple of days to solve a d/l problem).

Ok i manage to update game after change to ntfs, redownloaded without any problems. But all i see now is this: "Please try again later"

So i change steam server location, and even lang and same thing. After that i run steam in offline mode and....doesnt work either. So i delete L4D and CSS games to see do my ISP work correctly and both games downloaded and runs ok.

So what now STEAM? any more good ideas?

To the guy with the video card problem showing a white screen. I think the problem is your graphics cards, as its an Intel and they are not reknowned for playing all 3D games, some of them won't even play World of Warcraft.

Like everyone here i had a problem installing and the download start, but some how manage to fix it. The problem is with Steam as they are the distributors of the update, and it was their client used to authenticate the game. The bugs in the game are the makers, just wish there weren't fan boys whose stuff always work, but leave no help for others whose ain't.

Anyway, i partitioned the drive where the game is installed (as i have 5 in machine) to NTFS using Partition Magic, therefore i lost no data. I tried updating but it didn't work, so i put in my removeable drive with Vista, installed Steam via that onto the drive i partitioned earlier. The download started from 75%, took ages and then hanged at 100%. Finally it finished, but because it crashed while i tried playing it in Vista, i went back to XP. I started installing all over again, so i installed the Steam Client Beta, changed a few download location and finally all is well. This took 5 hours in total.

Hope theres some information you can take from what i've written.

I cannot explain how ****ed up I am!!!!
I got the game since the release day and was playing without any problems and crashes till now!!! But since the patch the game crashes in battles when I start to move the camera... nice work CA. REALY NICE WORK !!!
Maybe you should think about quality assurance or new workers in QA ...

The "best thing" is that I had automatic patches disabled for Empire ...

P.S.: 2 friends of mine got the same problem. Multiplayer as well as Singleplayer. Just when they / we start to move the camera the game CTD ... We are all three from Germany, wanted to say that because some ppl say that its not in every language..

Similar issue for me, Im from the UK with a more than capable PC, it ran relativly well before the patch with rhe occasional random CTD/memory leak etc, after the patch so far it crashes in any battle after the first few mins.

edit: I tried changing the language to french & steam crashed, loaded it up again and set back to english however game wouldnt even start properly without crashing. I then verified game files, it downloaded something and now it works quite well, CTD still happening but less frequently.

I cannot explain how ****ed up I am!!!!
I got the game since the release day and was playing without any problems and crashes till now!!! But since the patch the game crashes in battles when I start to move the camera... nice work CA. REALY NICE WORK !!!
Maybe you should think about quality assurance or new workers in QA ...
Please fix that ♥♥♥♥ as soon as possible !!
The "best thing" is that I had automatic patches disabled for Empire ...

P.S.: 2 friends of mine got the same problem. Multiplayer as well as Singleplayer. Just when they / we start to move the camera the game CTD ... We are all three from Germany, wanted to say that because some ppl say that its not in every language..

I'm from Germany too....same problem here. In the moment I move camera within a battle the game crashes.

BTW: I have no option within the language selection to change the game to english....just can use spanish, italian, polish, russian or czech besides my mother tongue .... and I don't speak any of them :p

Easy solution: Go to the options menu, go to audio and remove a tick in the box that says "speech". That solved the problem for me.

Why do I have to be online all the time to play Empire?

This is a common misconception that reappears around the internet. You only need Steam active and online to authenticate your copy at install and download the first update. After that you can switch Steam to 'offline' mode and play Empire without being connected to the internet. You never have to update again if you dont want to, but I'd urge users to keep getting the latest additions and fixes if they are able.

Nvidia Graphics Issues:

A few people have reported problems with some Nvidia graphics cards when playing Empire. The latest Nvidia drivers, that is those released yesterday (Approximately) have not been fully tested with Empire, meaning we cannot guarantee their stability. We test as fully as we can but when drivers are released so close to our release date, there's simply no way we can put them fully through their paces before you guys get the game. Rolling back to older drivers seems to solve the issue in most cases, I can say we've tested driver version 7.15.0011.8206 on a huge range on Nvidia cards and had no significant problems. But we're still working to see if there's anything we can do.

As well as the driver work arounds one of our graphics gurus here recommends turning off volumetric effects for the time being, in case that's whats going wrong with the drivers. It might also be helpful to step through the other options too 'SSAO', VSync etc.

I am very very sad that ETW does not have the diplomacy funktion "Attack Faction" ... like "I attack your enemy and for that you start an alliance with me" anymore. RTW had that funktion which gave you great diplomatic possibility .. even now that the "Protectorate" funktiuon works better then in RTW :-/

Yo, my disc version was downloading all right, then it stopped suddenly for about ten minutes. I tried to quit it and restart it, but it crashed. Had to force shut down my computer. Opened it again, refused to get to Windows, until I took out my disc. i put my disc back in, and Steam started to download, seemingly not from the disc. Download time: Seventeen hours. Left it on all night, still not done. Sixty three percent, and stopped for some reason. I took out disc and inserted disc two, Windows crashed immediately, black screen. Took the second disk out, Windows back to normal. Even without CD, still updating. Means its not getting information from CD right? Got back from school, finally finished. I launch game, it flashes Empire Total War copy right, blah blah, Windows detecting problem, and closes it.
Searched out Sega article to clear the game. I delete everything, but can't find the
c:\program files\steam\steam.exe -install E:
Now I have to start right back at the beginning. Steam refuses to start downloading, seventeen more hours at least. Want to kill somebody.
Tried it again, and Steam again, seems to be downloading entire thing from internet, never asked for disc 2. Help!

I have tried for hours to get my ETW game to run. It keept crahsing when I was loading it. My Desktop Res was set to 1680x1050. I lowered it to 1280x800 then bam it worked. I also had to change the game settings to med to get it to run wothout crashing. It knda sucks running the game in Med settings when I have a super Computer, but atleast I am able to play. I have played the game for several hours without any problems. I hope this helps,

well cant say for sure but it might be worth leaving the pc alone for a good few hours just in case its working but really, really slowly? this sort of thing used to happen quite often on my last rig and sometimes the load time was absurdly long for no apparent reason. it might be worth looking at the processes that are running when u start the install and after the box disappears might be some sort of direct x related problem also, maybe.

When I go to start etw preparing to launch comes up and then performing first time setup, installing Microsoft direct x for windows step 1 of 1. An error box then comes up saying problem caused the program to stop working correctly and it closes.

Does anybody know how to solve this problem?

I've tried installing Directx seperate aswell by using run, but just before it starts to install an error message appears saying

Setup has detected one or more DirectX conponent files are in use by another appliaction. Please exit all applications before running DirectX setup again.

Even though i dont have any other programs running.

I assume its connected to this problem below which is stopping me playing etw

When i go to play etw for first time it starts the performing first time setup bit installing microsoft direct x for windows and then it closes saying a problem caused the game to close. I already have directx 10 on my computer. Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

The game has been out nearly a month and they still haven't managed to fix some of the bugs from the early days?

To make this as easy as possible for whoever is responsible to sort this out:

The game crashes when certain nations declare war on you, or you declare war on them. In my personal experience it is only when an AI army is forced out of a zone you've recently captured due to diplomatic standings. I can't say the same for everyone else.

I've got a save file with a lot of hours invested into it and I would like it if I could continue playing it, because at present it crashes every time at the end of the turn as soon as it's the pueblo nations turn.

This game crashes stupidly for me, I'm talking all the time. I cant load a few of my save games as it just sits there flashing between black screen and the loading screen with some random repeated quote ive had to read over and over, and occasionally flashing to bright purple and green artifacts screens, flolowed by more loading screens.

Occasionally it does this during game on the campaign map for no appareant reason or even when switching to battles. I had to restart the Road to independance chapter 2, 4 times already, just to get the script to carry on with chapter 3. It is such a shame they released such a good game with so many flaws.

My machine is only 6 months old, it has a dual core 6000+, 8Gb ram and running the game off a 1 month old WD 1Tb HDD, Vista 64 runs perfect and I've never had many issues with any other games. Direct X is uupdated, Vid drivers are updated and have been rolled back and forth, I've pretty much tried all my troubleshooting, its become one of those games thats made me feel ripped off.

I'm normally pretty relaxed when it comes to gaming and I just want to have fun, but Empire: Total War is the first game I have ever bought that has made me actually 'Rage-Quit' without it being caused by some n00b, because instead I can't handle the constant crashing and restarting. I don't think I'll be buying anymore of The Creative Assembly's games if this is what they were prepared to release to public...

@Fulham1986: I had a few issues trying to get my game to run.
For those of you who can't load the game (I couldn't get past the intial screen, y'know the one with "thanks to Greenwich Maritime Museum"), try deleting the contents of your "Creative Assembly" folder, which should be in "Documents and Settings".In XP this is easy to find. If you are running Vista you may want to change the access settings so you can get into the bloody thing. Try this link if can't find or access Documents and Settings in Vista:

They made an exception for GTA4 since the majority of players couldn't actually get the game to run / couldn't get playable framerates.

If this continues I'm going to start in on them for a refund for this game as well. It seems to be the fault of the maker of the game at this point, and putting pressure on STEAM for a refund with get them to pressure the source, if nothing else.

Honestly I can live without my $25 if I could play the damn game. =(

When you capture a territory (in this case Austria) that is being blockaded (in this case by Venice) and the port is occupied by Austrians, if you take over the port the game crashes.Most likely a breakdown in the AI on the fact that the Venicians are blockading a friendly port or something.

Thats pretty much what I have except I have a 1 gb 9800gtx+. I too bought my new machine last Feb to be able to play this mostly (but also being able to play the latest games on high settings isn't bad either!).

When this game was released I crashed left and right.. they made it somewhat more stable.. I was only crashing ever hour or so but after the last patch.. I'm back to crashing again every 15mins or so. Perhaps its the nvidia card and you won't experience the issue but you should check sega's forums and see how many others have the issue.

To be honest with the new game coming out in Feb and most likely they will do more support for that than what they are currently doing with this game.. you may just want to wait till feb and play MW2 (med war2 not modernwar2..well come to think of it at this rate that might be a bad choice).

Its also closing in on a year for Empire TW and they STILL have serious issues with this game. I recommend considering that.. as well. This might be one you wait and buy when its in the sale bin on here.

I think if you play the WarPath Campaign or Road To Independence Campaign or multiplayer.. you will get to use those units.

Sounds like a video card driver issue to me. If you haven't updated your drivers in a while try that.. if you just updated your drivers and see this.. roll them back.

Sorry just noticed your issue.. its your vid card drivers. Same thing happened to me. Roll them back to a previous driver.

The question is: I bought the original Empire total war, and the DVDs arrived, i put to install steam, I installed after I registered and did the update steam. But when i try to install the game it is this part: "creating local game cache files ...
preparing Empire: Total War files for install "and gave it 7 hours that ta and not install it.
and that the problem, someone please help me? I am Brazilian and to using a translator, so the English is so bad.

So I played the road to independence and started on the main campaign to find out that I can not play as the us! I ordered the extra us units so I could use them not so they would only be in the road to independence that never lasts long enough to get them anyways.

Now I try to play the gran campaign and it crashes any time I view the left side of north Africa. I see people talking about this CDT fix thing but then I see it does not work for windows 7!?

So if I understand this correctly if you run windows 7 you simply can not play the game!? (not listed in supported oses but will it ever be)

Also will these problems be fixed in the new version. I was thinking of preordering it but decided not to because the game is broken.

Well my game downloaded just fine, runs just fine, no crashes, no errors, no problems... It sucks that too many are not being able to enjoy this great game to the fullest. I hope that a patch or something can come out, so it can work out for at least 95%+ of users.

Is there anything one can do to stop these constant CTD's and Empire not responding's? Anything?

I'm getting tired of not moving forward in my campaign. After an hour of battle it's nice to have empire not respond, it really is.. And not just once a day, about 3 times.

I can't seem to get AA working with ATI. Anyone know a fix/workaround? I have a 5870 with Catalyst 10.2 (whatever version was out around 17th Feb) and forcing it in CCC does not seem to work. Anyone that has AA working with an ATI card please post your CCC details so I can try and recreate them. Either way, this game looks like ♥♥♥♥ without AA, so they should really fix it for ATI users.

Erm, a lot ofpeople are typing posts here, so I think I can do so ?

Year 1777 my pc crashes to the desktop when two large armies of Sweden attack my Russian fort. This has constantly been the reason why I have never succeeded in world domination in Empire Total War. (After 'x' amount of years every time I install E:TW, it just crashes and I can't play any further)

If I can't get a fix of this in the next day or so, I'm officially through with E:TW =/ I'm just gonna play M:TW which was my favourite peiod, and never touch any further releases of the TW =/

Hey I am having a problem with my game. It works just fine and dandy on land battles and campaigns until I try to play a Naval Battle. It loads the battle and it's fine, but once its done loading, it should work rite? WRONG! It goes to black and then the game crashes:confused:. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Po zmianie systemu z XP na Win 7 64bit i ponownej instalacji Steam z Grą gdzieś zniknęły i nie ma ich w grze mówię o wszystkich jednostkach specjalnych. Kiedy chcę ponownie kupić je na Steam wyskakuje mi że już je mam. Co zrobić żeby wszystko działało ponownie? Pozdrawiam

Hi! Anyone expierienced similar problem? I bought all DLCs for Steam ETW. Worked fine. After upgrading from XP to Win7 64-bit and reinstalling Steam the DLCs disappeared and I can't see them in the game. All special units are gone. When I'm trying to buy them Steam tells me that I already got them all. I'm lost - how I should make it work? Please help. Cheers!

1. Open steam and login to account with ETW registered to it.

2. Click the My Games Tab.

3. In the My Games tab, click Activate a product on steam button.

4. With the Product activation wizard open, Press next until prompted to enter product code.

5. Enter Code and press next.

6. Activation Successful screen should appear now, close this.

7. Launch Napoleon: Total War.

hello, I installed E/TW from Disc. I have very slow internet connection (like seriously slow, 100 KBps is fast!) I have pre paid wireless. I don't care if I have to play Vanilla, in fact, I want to just be able to play vanilla. However, this stupid Steam is forcing me to download a heap of updates, which is going to take another six hours. Is Valve going to give me some money so that I can go and purchase more internet credit? This is so annoying!

please someone tell me I dont have to download this ♥♥♥♥. I just want to play offline, is that too much to ask nowadays with all this fantastic technology that is supposedly meant to make "life easier" and "connect people". Well f^ck that! Just give me my dam game and let me play I what I paid for

the creative assembly should fix some remaining bugs like the invulnerable horse artillery when your still not deploying it and i think they should add one or two points for the dragoons to compensate the price or at least they should make the dragoons much cheaper than the light dragoons. i hope those things will be fix in the final update of empire. i'm crossing my fingers to that.
