I can't play vice city - because my monitor doesn't go low enough to 640x480. Apparntly you can use reshacker on the .exe and take out the check - unfortunately in reshacker the gta-vc.exe doesn't contain very much of anything.

Any ideas?

ps> This has nothing to do with the in-game resolution. There is a check placed in the game to see if 640x480 is supported, then the game boots and goes to whatever resolution you have in your config file.

I'm having this same problem. I've looked everywhere and haven't been able to find a definite solution. The latest drivers for my graphics card are installed, I've tried re-installing the game multiple times, running it in compatibility mode doesn't work and neither does making a custom resolution. It must just be that the drivers don't support this mode but there has to be a way around it...

I have a Lenovo T61p with 3GB of RAM and a NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M running Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

How did you fix this Daleus? Can anyone else help?

But why do you want to play it on a tiny ugly 640 pixels?

I mean, the main benefit of a PC version is to not be stuck on beat SDTV resolution, why do you want to cripple your experience?

The point isn't to play it at that resolution, the game just won't start otherwise. Once I can get the game to run, I'll be able to change the resolution in the settings menu.

Is there really no one else having this issue? I've seen posts about this on other forums...

I can't change the resolution at all. If I try to change it it freezes and ultimately crashes the game. I have no idea how to fix this problem. I've looked it up online but none of the solutions work with the steam version.

Has anyone found a fix for this yet? I would really love to play gta3 and vc again...
