I have had a similar problem where the game would start its process then stop shortly after.
The way I fixed this is by disabling all of my non-primary sound devices.
In Windows 7 right click the speaker in the notifications tray and click on Playback devices menu option. In the list right click on the items that do not have a green tick and select disable. Click OK and try to run Buccaneer.
You can enable them later on by right clicking in the empty space within that list and you have the options to show disabled devices.
I also did the same for recording devices as well just in case.
Looking in my application event log I noticed an entry which looked like:
Faulting application name: Buccaneer.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4a8b7578
Faulting module name: MMDevApi.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bda29
Exception code: 0xc0000005
And the console.log generated from the application did not show very much, it got the point of trying to bind to the network adapters and that was about it.
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.5GHz
Inno3D 9800GT i-Chill Edition 512MB DDR3 Dual DVI HDTV Out PCI-E
Creative X-FI Soundblaster
I hope this will help others in future, I think this issue is related to soundcard problems. It is worth having a look on the Pursuit of Infamy website Support forum for more help if this does not work: http://www.pursuitofinfamy.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=12

Go to http://www.pursuitofinfamy.com/forum , register, and post your system specs and console.log in the Support & FAQ forum and I'll take a look.
Most likely issues are DirectX version out of date (MS release updates every few months and they don't get installed by automatic updates), graphics driver issues, or sound card driver problem, but without the log it's impossible to even suggest a starting point.
