Hey guys,

I just got an idea and i hope you think its a good one :)..

The idea: With the new system of finding random items, people often have two or more of the same weapons (E.g. i have 5 blutsaugers :/). Well besides a trading system, i think this issue can be solved also in another way.. Why not add an option (next to the inventory) for 'weapon modification', where you can put three of the same weapons to get a (slightly) better version of that weapon.. E.g. the blutsauger at level 5 has Health gain: 3 (30/sec), well if you have three of them, you can (or trade them with somebody else) or you can melt them together (technology of blu and red combined) into a blutsauger at level 10 with health gain: 4 (40/sec), 3 blutsaugers level 10 makes a blutsauger level 15 and so on... 'till a certain level (discutable)! Weapons with a higher level, can't be as much modified as lower level weapons.. Of course you can also find these higher level items (but with a low frequency like the hats).
An extra for new and not-so-often players: the chance to find an item would be higher the less items you have in your inventroy E.g. : the chance of finding an item would be a lot higher compared to people with a full inventory.

This has five major advantages: (1) You can keep room in your inventory for finding other items, (2) The motivation for looking for more items will go up (and so will the playing-time) because of the willingness to upgrade the existing weapons, (3) The gamers who don’t want/can’t trade, can spend their weapons in another way, (4) it will enhance the upcoming trade-system and (5) is new player friendly.

Feed-back is most welcome!!

(I hope VALVe considers this idea, so I can do something with my 5 blutsaugers ;))

Grtz,

Blacksad

This isn't balanced.

This isn't balanced.

Wow, thnx for the constructive critique..

At least you can tell whats not balanced..
(the weapon upgrades are slightly upgrades so they won't effect much of the gameplay, they are just meant to motivate players to do something with their found items)

Grtz

a) No. Never. Never ever. No upgrades, this would legitimately piss alot of people off.
b) Totally wrong forum. The TF2 forum is there for a reason.

a) can you explain this point a bit more? I'm not good enough with my English to understand this argument..
b) The (support)team at valve refered me with this idea to this section.. so I posted here.

grtzOn the first point: Having the unlocks working as upgrades would piss people off. The unlocks were not supposed to be upgrades, everyone should have the same chances in the game, no matter how often he/she plays. You however want the moreplayers having an advantage other the casual players.

You have an excellent point..
(just thinking a step further) besides the weapon upgrades, there must be a way for new and casual players (although they have a greater chance of findign items) of having benefits also. There must be a way to upgrade the old ones too (without having to find or upgrade them)..

You have an idea?

You have an idea?Yes. Keep it as it is. Why do you want upgrades so bad? The unlocks were (as already said) supposed to be sidegrades, so no one should ever have a better weapon than someone else. Of course this did not always work (the sandman was too powerful when it came out), but it got nerfed afterwards. I personally welcome the idea of no upgrades. Why should you have better equipment than someone else?

And if there will be upgrades, people will protest. Can you give a source for why you see the hats as upgrades?

-the items have levels (is said to feature in future updates of the game)
-the hats are now for ethical use only, but this will change over time
-items (hats,..) will be given gameplay bonuses

"While Walker notes that head-slot items are all cosmetic for now, Valve may implement items that grant gameplay bonuses in the future depending on the feedback received from the TF2 community." (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/01/valve-discusses-the-future-of-team-fortress-2/)

"But the biggest potential game changer includes what appear to be Diablo II-like item attributes that modify the way weapons behave. These include variations on things like clip size, firing speed, critical hits, chance to slow targets on hit, Ubercharge rate and much more. Game files even describe these as having levels, naming weapons in the style of "Level 4 Medigun of X ÜberCharge rate." (http://kotaku.com/5220736/team-fortress-2-patch-hints-at-new-headgear-huge-gameplay-changes)

"Shack: So would you say that you're still considering whether to add extra items/weapons that impact the game beyond cosmetic variation?
Robin Walker: We plan to do more than just cosmetic items, but we like to go one step at a time to be able to measure the effect of each change, both on the game and on the community." (http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=1124)

I've also read about possible gameplay impact from hats, but it was more supposed to be a "bonus on X and minus on Y"

(speculation) Not only hats, maybe torso, legs, other weapons...
And please keep it friendly, I'm just also a fan who likes to fantasize about the future of the game.. I just have an other opinion than you about the upgrades.
Btw, people will always protest, no matter what they will do with the future plans on TF2..

Btw, people will always protest, no matter what they will do with the future plans on TF2..Many protests got heard. Look again at the sandman, it was a clear upgrade when it came out and it got nerfed. Or the medic pack which required people to have all achievements to get the ubersaw, it got "nerfed" too. BTW, I didn't attack you. But I ask you to imagine how a novice player would feel who'd get killed by people who have clearly BETTER weapons instead of just different weapons.
