North Country (2005) - 7.5/10. Started out nice, but was a little too cliched towards the 2nd half.

How can you like a show like the Big Bang Theory? I watched one episode by accident the other day, and I must say I found it about as funny as getting an arrow through the neck and then discovering there's a bill attached to it.

They focused too much on their technology and 3D which looks to have some Matrix ripoffs and paid no attention to the storyline, there is no story, no depth.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: 8/10

Good movie, the first half flies along then it drags in the middle and ends rather promptly which I didn't like. Good action scenes but there seriously needs to be more violence, and Harry should just kill the Deatheaters. The time for playing nice is over.

Saw 3D: 7/10

Same old plot, same old characters but with new traps. Probably the goriest of the lot, with some really horrid death scenes (always seems to be the pretty females). A nice twist at the end sums up what is probably one of the most popular horror series of all time.

I watched Moon last night. Sam Rockwell is something else. I remember loathing him in the Green Mile, in the way actors strive for;) but for some reason I never make the connection between a deep, visceral hatred of a character with the actor doing a good job. They have to play a 'good' guy for my subconscious to make me think of them as good actors. I'm trying slightly, to overcome that.

I watched most of the Star Wars marathon on Spike this weekend. The first three movies are amazing to this day. I don't think any trilogy will top them, ever.

When you are eight years old, the whole world is against you. When you are thirteen years old, it's you against (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_7KtgW11tw) the whole world.

I used to be a waiter & you hear people talk. There was a back room people liked to have business meetings in. A meeting about an expansion into Russia turned to talk of payoffs to the mob. Words, theme contrasts more words. Anyway, it is a great movie about two sisters, and I was fascinated by the non-Moscow places in the film.

As much as I love watching those 3-4 hour epics, LotR can't compete with the original SW trilogy and most notably the Indiana Jones trilogy, in terms of balance. But it's all personal preference in the end, what genres you're more inclined to and whatnot.

A commercial film and an indie movie trapped in one. These conflicting directions result in a slightly confusing mess, but it's funny for the most part and Emma Stone makes it worth it. An overly warm critical reception is puzzling though.

Meh, Crystal Skull was not that horrible. Sure it didn't stand up to the classic ones, but it was still entertaining. The movies have always been about keeping with a certain time frame. The first and the third ones all centered around the German Nz's and Hitlers obsession with religious artifacts. The fourth film was set in the wake of the communist fright. And the big thing around those times was conspiracies with Roswell, UFO's. All in all, the plot line could have been better. But the over all filmography was excellent, and they did a good job recreating the 60's.

First, really....a steal lined fridge.

Second, 50% of Harrison Ford lines or redubs.

Third, the action sequence of a sword fight on the back of two jeeps while driving 60 mph through a jungle?

Forth, Karen Allen's line delivery was painful.

Fifth, Shia LaPoff is not believable as a tough guy greaser.

Sixth, Harrison Ford sends that guy, who is insane, back into the forest to find help? The only people around is the camp of Russians that are trying to kill them.

Seventh, they use a snake as a rope.....a snake as a rope.

And pulling the heart out of a mans chest and watching it still beat and then catch fire is any more realistic?

Third, the action sequence of a sword fight on the back of two jeeps while driving 60 mph through a jungle?

Vs. A high speed bike jousting in a German forest?

Sixth, Harrison Ford sends that guy, who is insane, back into the forest to find help? The only people around is the camp of Russians that are trying to kill them.

Believe it or not, that is not the worst mistake that Harrison Fords character has made in the trilogy. In the first film, when the Germans are about to open the Ark, Indiana tells Marian to look away and keep her eyes shut. This indicates that he knew the holy spirits were about to come out of the ark and kill everyone who was watching. If he already knew that this would happen, then why the hell did he attempt to intercept the Germans, forcing them to open it prematurely before they took it back to Hitler? Why not aid them and give them all the support, find the Ark of the covanant for them, give it to them, and encourage them to take it back and open it in front of the entire German legion of soldiers? Indiana could have ended WWII:o

All in all, the movies were never meant to be critically analysed. It is all pure fictional fun;)

[/spoiler]

There is a huge difference between mythological/mystical material, reference to the heart scene (that concept actually works very well) and just plain silliness.

Also, keep in mind that Indy always had his doubts about superstition and religious faith. I think he realized at the last second that something bad was going to happen. He always knew what the stories entailed, but never quite believed them until the end.

I don't think that was a "mistake", at all. It really suits his character.

Well, for me, that's just it. There were parts that stuck out like a sore thumb that made it less enjoyable. It's not that we are being too critical, it's just that some scenes in the movie simply don't work.

I'm going to say something that most will not like but I would like to see this movie remade (and I hate remakes). I saw the Bluray version, and I gotta say, I don't think the film aged well. By this I mean, the film quality. There are a lot of parts that are washed out by poor lighting and there were a lot of parts of the film that you couldn't tell exactly what was going on because it was to dark. Kind of like DOOM 3.

It is a great story and it had some great acting though. :p

I like these films, sincerely, I have a dancer inside that I rarely let out, so this is pure escapism for me. You believe these guys, that they live and breathe dance, so you're willing to forgive them their lack of acting experience and the story takes a backseat in general. These films are about dance, first and foremost, watching these crews battle it out.

And the scene backed up by "Fancy Footwork" was brilliant. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1BP77YDzDc)

2001: A Space Oddysey

Never seen it before. I kind of understand why no one has subject me to such torment before. Back in the early 70's I could see that movie being something epic, but today, gah. After the 3rd scene of a spaceship landing that took over 10 minutes, I thought I was going bonkers.

Then the psychedelic scene that lasted 10 minutes of the dude warping through space with the crazy colors, and then a baby floating into space. I'm surprised Steven Spielberg wasn't in on that.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World - I am one of only a few people that loved it, solid 9+/10. Rare time when I felt the movie did the previous work justice. Sadly I quote it and get blank stares, and that's just a bummer.

Role Models - 8/10, would be a 7/10 but the KISS stuff (explanation of Love Gun) was just hilarious.

Cobra - 5/10, just one of the many terribly awesome '80's action movies. The fact that Stallone drove that great 1950 Mercury is worth it.

Bullitt - 9/10 for one of the top 5 greatest car chases ever recorded. Doesn't matter the Charger loses 6 hubcaps and you can see when Steve McQueen is driving or his stunt driver, it's still amazing. rating biased due to me being a massive MOPAR guy and having a '68 charger.

The movie was so ridiculous, IMO. The one thing that stuck in my mind was how when he was walking on the sidewalk, maybe in Manhattan, everyone and their grandma would throw things at him, because they knew it was him even when all they could see was a suit walking away from them.

The Passenger (2009) - had some very good moments

Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104348/) - 9/10. Watched it for the 2nd or 3rd time. This movie is way underappreciated, has an all-star cast, and is simply hilarious

Yep, the same expensive soap opera continues. A surprisingly good soundtrack though, some nice licensed tracks in there.

In my opinion Shrek started going downhill after the first movie (which was awesome). The second one was still quite good but the third already bored me to death.

Or yet better: read the graphic novels - more story, more funny, more awesome, far less cheesy.

Last night switching between Underworld and Pitch Black whenever a commercial comes on. It really makes for an interesting plot that way. So anyway all the doe eyed boys go crazy over Vin, and ignore very sexy Radha. Do they all have 'We love Vin, he's so not gay' t-shirts too?
Thinking of the character development of the girl to the Riddic film (which was fun enough). A basicly earnest young girl becomes one of the toughest people in one of the toughest prisons in the known universe. Maybe the backstory had flying pigs, but the starving prisoners ate them all? Anyway, four stars for both, 'cause I got a thing for shiny black cat suits.
Also, Underworld actually had some depth to the characters for that type of flic.

Friday The 13th (2009)

Blatant franchising continues. No one can act in this film, not even what is required of them, makes a point about showing you fake ♥♥♥♥ and it's just ♥♥♥♥, you know. It's boring ♥♥♥♥. Not scary, not exciting or even remotely interesting. Most of these films are about a group of young people getting killed and once you've seen one, you've seen them all.

The King's Speech

Terrific, Colin Firth is well deserving of any awards coming his way. As with most British films, the casting is flawless, simply because there are so many great actors across the empire. Geoffrey Rush and Michael Gambon make any movie thrice as better. A very heartwarming tale to boot.

Red Dawn (1984) - 7/10

Finally got to see it, but I was kinda disappointed. I am appalled at the Soviet/Cuban Alliance's incompetence at trying to kill 8 kids with AK-47s.

But if this was the 90s standard of movie-making, than it was a pretty good job on the director's part.

This was at the height of the cold war between the US and Russia - It was basically propaganda.

I hear they're making a remake of Red Dawn.

It's set for release this year - This time it's the US vs. China. Apparently they've decided that China is more relevant than Russia in 2011. Naturally, the Chinese are furious.
