I propose a thread where anyone can post the film they last watched, with a mark.
I often find myself trying to think of films to watch but run out of ideas. This could be used as a reference.
Coraline 8/10
Quite a strange but very enjoyable film. Looks like Tim Burton should have had a hand in it but it's not one of his. Highly recommended.

Well for me it would have to be Night at the Museum 2 which was great to watch even though im more into action and dramatic mystery stuff
it gets a 9/10 in my book
but technically the last movie i watched would be fan boys but it was the second time ive watched that and its probably the funniest comedy ive seen in years mainly because there is endless star wars jokes, fights with star trek fans, and they raid the skywalker ranch lmao
and it would get a 10/10

that was a good movie and i cant wait till the next one
im glad bond movies are becoming more story progression instead of the age old formulae of: ♥♥♥♥ happens, bond is sent to kill the sterotypical monologing villian, meets bond chick, kills the villian and then commence with the international "negotiations" between bond and the chick lol

I don't honestly know, Netfick was offering it on my sons 360 about a week ago, so he downloaded it. I know the guy cut off this mobsters head at the beginning of the movie. Accidently kills an undercover cop, if thats any help. Almost total no stop blood, guts, gore, and action. What more could a guy ask?:D

8/10
Description from NetFlix:Chronos is a wonder -- it's the first nonverbal, nonfiction movie filmed entirely in time-lapse photography. Presented as a visual symphony in seven movements, Chronos takes viewers on an unprecedented cinematic journey through the essence of time, across the worlds of natural beauty and man-made monuments. Prepare to be awestruck by this unique film that's unlike anything you've ever seen before.

Last film I saw was Yojimbo, it was actually pretty good. The actor who played The Samurai was especially good. The fight scenes were slightly corny by today's standards, but they were still well choreographed. Some well placed humor as well, along with some really cool cinematography. Definitely a good introduction into Akira Kurosawa's body of work imo.

Kill Bill vol. 1: 2/10
Feels like Hollywood's attempt at making an anime with live actors, failing miserably. Poor fights, poor plot, poor characters, poor dialog, poor special effects, the only good thing about it is the audio which captures the feel of cheesy '80s flicks perfectly but that's it.
Don't watch the second part then, whatever you do...

That's too bad, because it's kind of a movie that really interlinks well with Casino Royale so well, you'll watch casino royale totally differently.
I'd say that it's good you've been swayed to think this is a disappointing film because now you'll be surprised if you see it's good.

9/10 Very Good
A very good western movie with a simple but interesting story. Has Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman in it. The only problem I had is that it seemed that the ending was a bit rushed/happened and was over too quickly. Other than that, awesome movie

Slumdog Millionaire, was fantastic... everybody despises the movie now because it won an oscar, and loved it before hand, though I guess that's normal.
If you can get past the fact that much of it is a little unbelievable, it is a really fun ride.
Terminator 4 was horrific, 4/10, worst plot development of any terminator movie, more Christian Bale than any movie deserves, corny, bad... some good action scenes and that's all
Star Trek was absolutely amazing. Not having liked Batman or Star Trek going into the Dark Knight and Star Trek, I have to say these are some tremendous films. Not sure which I like better, but both are fantastic.

Taxi Driver is my favourite film - I always try and tell people to watch it. Scorsese's finest work.
I just saw Confessions of a Dangerous Mind which was very entertaining. Its based off Chuck Barris' autobiography where he claimed he was a hitman for the CIA along with his real job as a game show host - which is what he is most known for. Most people dont believe the CIA part and think its a way for him to redeem his meaningless (to him) life. It's a bit slow in the first half, but about two thirds in, it really picks up and by the end I was surprised how moved I was by its final line. 8/10

Twilight
Vampires who glitter in the sun, a teen romance before a high school backdrop. Some odd choice of music in a few scenes. Kristen Stewart, who I think did a good job in such movies as Panic Room and Speak, has not grown much as an actor. It's a teen romance oozing with perfection, escapism for that specific target group and goes against a lot of traditions of vampire mythology.
This type of story is more suitable for a TV series. I haven't read a book and I'm not interested in reading it, but it should've stayed as a book, because it doesn't translate well to the big screen.

This type of story is more suitable for a TV series. I haven't read a book and I'm not interested in reading it, but it should've stayed as a book, because it doesn't translate well to the big screen.
I loved Twilight, and when its sequel comes out I plan on going to go and see it. I also plan on owning it on Blu-Ray.

Hancock (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0448157/)
...so so, maybe only 5/10...I really liked the whole idea of thats actually how a real superhero would kinda end up, and feel/act like that after awhile...kinda just wanted more of that, with maybe just a slight awkward clean-up or reason to 'straighten-up' a bit at the end...I liked Charlize Theron's part of "Angel" but didn't need it in this movie...good Jason Bateman part Was this the pronographic version of the superhero film featuring Will Smith??? was this a comic book/graphic novel first?
"Into the Wild"
Stunning... yeah, great true story
..anyway, after Hancock last night, I watched Heavy Metal 2000 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119273/)
...I'm not sure what I would rate that at all, or why I even watched it...I even rewound it to see the parts I fell asleep durring
That's why I hate user ratings on the internet. They so often seem to be binary, people seem to either give one star or max stars. nice, I'm going to use that:
"you don't need to be so binary, its not like you only can eat foods you love, and everything else tastes like dirt
...there are alot of different levels of: dislike to eatable/healthy to decadence" (my geek-wan-ta-be 11 year old Kid might get that)

Tell No One
French thriller that came out a few years ago, it was very good. Basically, a guy's wife is murdered, and 8 years later, she suddenly emails him. The rest of the movie is filled with plot twists and intrigue as the guy tries to figure out the mstery behind his wife's death.
The plot is almost to muddled to understand, but tight direction allows you to catch up from time to time. Good performances too, especially from the main character guy. 9/10
Three Days of the Condor
Another thriller, made in the 1970s and starring the venerable Robert Redford and Faye Dunaway. Redford's character works for the CIA doing rather menial office work for their NYC branch. One day he leaves to go pick up lunch for the 7 other people in the office, and he returns to discover they've all been murdered! From there, Redford uses his wits and the at first unwilling help of Miss Dunaway to discover just who is behind the murders, all while trying to prevent the bad guys from finishing him off too.
The story clips along at a nearly perfect pace, nothing seems rushed, probably because the great Sydney Pollack directed this film. Redford gives a great performance as always, and the plot is for the most part logical and easy to follow. The ending was a bit of a letdown though, so I' give the film a 7.5/10

Bunch of friends and I got together for a movie night Friday evening.
Started it off with "Bad Taste", Peter Jackson's first movie. Definitely a B gore flick, but as gore flicks go it was entertaining. Zombie aliens invade, gore ensues, a house fly's into space in the end.
Idiocracy was next. Odd jump from what we had just watched. My first time seeing it as well. Found it amusing, some good one liners in it.
Followed that with Cannibal: The Musical! Trey Parkers first work. Musical comedy about a group of miners getting lost in the Rockie's while traveling to Colorado and having to resort to eating each other to survive. Based on a true story, loosely of course. Rather well written comedy IMO, clever songs. Troma Films released a special edition not long ago.
Keeping with musicals, onto Repo! The Genetic Opera. Highly under-rated IMO. Not really for the weak stomached either. Story of a company that sells replacement organs on credit, and when you miss a payment the Repo-man comes. All told through song.
Final showing was Dead Alive. One of the best gore flicks ever made. Another Peter Jackson movie, fantastic makeup work. Most people know it for the Lawnmower Scene in the end (payed homage to in Blood Harvest 4 in the basement of the house near the safe room). Only other movie I can think of right now that nearly matches this for ridiculous amounts of over the top blood and gore is Tokyo Gore Police.

I knew it was going to be awful from all the user comments and film reviews...but it was even worse than I was expecting. It has some nice effects and ideas behind it (gunshot at the end with the snow exploding off the gun), but the script and actors were just....no. They should've got Sam Lake to write it. The game is soooo much better. Valkaries? Demons? Seriously?
Then again, it was a game film, so it was destined to be bad in the first place.

I just saw Transformers 1 again, didn't see 2 yet but I really like the first.
I don't know why its hated so much by fans of the cartoons and critics, they said it focused on the humans too much but it seemed like a pretty good balance with the humans and autobots fighting side by side. And it's not like the story was deep in the cartoons
some of the dialogue was pretty bad, and the humor didnt really work too well but the action is so epic, feels like when you play battlefield and you're fighting on the ground and you look up and watch someone fight in the air, and everything is just blowing up and looking awesome!

Transformers 2: 8/10
The only points I can agree with people on are the overlong-ness of the movie, particularly the Egypt scene. Any scene where Megan Fox speaks is pretty much lost as well, but I tend to be a fan of LaBeouf's wisecracking ways and just generally how he delivers his dialog. John Turturro's scenes are pure gold as well, just like in the first movie. They overdo the antics of the parents a little bit, but I still found them hilarious along with everybody else in the theater.
That said, the plot is a little bit ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I admit, I don't know much about the Transformers mythos, but the hierarchy of the Decepticons goes a little bit snookaloopy and the entire premise of the movie gives that aire of the events of the first one simply being retconned into a fitting pretense.

Harry Potter 1, 2 and 3 with the GF in preperation for the 6th film (and because ASDA had a pretty great 3 for £10 on any DVD's sale going on so she bought all 5 and Taken). We may watch 4 and 5 between now and the 15th.
Hmm how to rate them. They butcher the books of course, and remove all of the charm and.. well, magic of the books. They also remove all of the many many side stories, a lot of background, and a fair few characters. They only roughly follow the main plot points (ie action sequences) of the books and ignore the rest; all of the humanity of the characters and the feeling of living in and exploring the castle for entire years. They also make you watch child actors which wasn't an issue with the books, and miss out heaps and heaps of important stuff.
But once i'm over that they're fairly enjoyable I guess. The first 2 are incredibly cheesy, the 3rd is less so and has great music and art direction, but again changes the story a fair bit. I won't give them number ratings. Compared to the books they're all 1/10 but stand alone they're all between 7 and 8 i'd say.

Powder Blue
It was alright. I've seen plenty of movies that have a similar structure, so this wasn't anything new for me, but at the same time it was done well enough to enjoy it. And it had a pretty good selection of different music.
P.S. A chance to see Jessica Biel in zie nude, if anyone's interested. :p

Thanks Marie, you read my mind. :)
Ren & Stimpy is one of my all-time favorite cartoons.
As for Sophie's Choice, I managed to finish it. Meryl Streep gives a flawless performance. I loved how the character was unraveled.

2001: A space Odyssey 4/1 totally lost on me this one
Doom 5.5/10 crappy mow 'em down action film full of bad acting and cliché. The 5.5 is for the NIN soundtrack

Watched the Mad Max trilogy on the weekend, number 2 (road warrior) is by far the best, the last one (Beyond the Thunderdome) sucked hard.

I watched Knowing the other day, and it is a very good movie. Makes you think about how we really came to earth.
The Kingdom 7/10
Fast and Furious 2009 5/10
Borat 8/10
The Incredible Hulk 8/10

Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince: 4/5
It retained the dark theme from the previous installments but was more focused on romance, and less on death and destruction. The ending was to be expected, but felt empty.

The fight with Bouksami Desh was the best CQC fight in all the films, and the soundtrack is amazing.

I liked Knowing too but it definetly doesnt make you think, its just a very average sci fi movie.

I prefer the first one myself, but you're right it's better to just pretend Beyond Thunderdome never existed.
Terminator Salvation
I would say a nice follow on, with a different idea to it. Nice to see a bit of offense in Terminator for a change rather than chase. Nice effects. However I couldnt get how Kyle (Conners Dad) in Terminator 1 didnt know how to kill a single terminator without getting pwned first when apparently he is in the resistance on this one.

Today I watched "Gran Torino" (http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/grantorino?q=gran%20torino). That movie was really the best non-action and non-horror movie that I've seen so far, it's serious and a bit funny at the same time. But the ending is pretty... well it's not bad but I don't want to spoiler it. Seriously, you people gotta watch that movie.
It's a clear 10 of 10 for me.

Gangster No. 1
Paul Bettany is excellent in this, but unfortunately in the last 20 minutes, the movie falls completely on it's ♥♥♥.
Atm, I'm in the middle of watching Wolf (1994) and Bathory (2008).

Watchmen
8/10
Never read the graphic novel, knew nothing about the story, but thought it was pretty well done. And they didn't get carried away with the slo-mo action sequences, even though there were plenty in there

In the Loop.
One of the funniest, smartist, wittiest and downright cynical things I've seen this year. The TV series was excellent, and the film does exactly what it should have done, it builds it up on a grander scale.
Check out the clip - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reTHiReUNo4 ,and you'll never use the word purview again.

I watched The Proposal this week. A little cheesy, but quite entertaining. 7/10.

YouTube put up Ghostbusters for free yesterday!
I watched the living hell out of it. It's one of those movies I don't just watch for nostalgia, I watch it because it's still just that good.
