Profile and Achivements: "Unknown Steam error prevented access to this" [Archive]

Since today's patch, whenever I try to access Profile and Achievements from the main menu it gives me the error "Unknown Steam error prevented access to this." I'm logged into Steam, and the game shows me the correct perks progress when I start a game but I can't access them from the main menu. Is anyone else getting this error?

That won't work I'm afraid.
As I had a little free time on my hands I did a clean reinstall of Killing Floor (yes clean, 100% deleted the game and redownloaded it) and also deleted the "ClientRegistry.blob" archive (which solved this same problem on 1.0 or 1.1 I believe) and the problem persists so I'm pretty sure we gotta wait for a fix from TWI.

You can still level. The perks still appear as normal in-game, but you can't access it from the main menu for some reason. I levelled my sharpshooter and support perks no problem tonight.

I prefer the new menu screen, looks better with more colour. Splash screens meh, ELUA says they can ban cheaters? rofl.

this happened even before when playing a map like TheHive and after that

its something wrong and steam is trying to prevent hacking the stats

No one is bashing here or flaming, people are just saying that they have a problem and tripwire (as we can see) are aware of it and are testing a fix as we speak. And yes I think we all know that every game has their bugs on every platform. I just hope that it will come out soon, it's not a critical bug but still feals a bit wierd.

I am experiencing this problem aswell, however I am also unable to view my progress of my perks ingame. I should have a few level 3s and all it shows are level 0s as if i had never played the game before. Even when i try to play the game with these level 0s it still shows that no progress has been made. Is my second problem just a whole different issue that has a fix?

This used to come up on servers that were running the mutator that lets people choose a perk at level 5 (or whatever it was set at) with a menu in game.

Both my brother and I went to play last night and suddenly got this error. It happens when we try to look in perks and achievements AND when we try to change perks in game. It has no stats for any of the perks, the only piece of information we can still see is the map description.

I haven't had the stats ect. display since the 2 patches the other day, but I was still able to change perks until last night. :(

Basically can only play as the class I was the other day and nothing else.

EDIT: Actually, just tested a few things again.
I can change perks from the perks and achievements menu now, im also able to change them in solo. Just not online.

EDIT2: Just played a few games then and realized that i get no bonus' as if I have no perks. No cheaper weapons, speed, damage or anything. (perks enabled server too)

All fixed here now, found that it was actually not allowing perks for servers that aren't using the optional update. Servers updated and working perfectly again. Don't think that's related to the main menu one people are getting though.

I am still getting this problem.

I played the game for a while when it first game out, then didn't touch it. I uninstalled it, uninstalled steam (which was on C drive), reinstalled steam on D drive, and then reinstalled killing floor. Now every time I try and load it, it gives the error while selecting the perks. I've reinstalled it twice and deleted my clientregistry.blob, all to no effect.

There was a map which disabled perks that we played on one time, like some castle map which made this error appear for me now too. Any ideas?

Check your log file. It will tell you exactly what the problem is. If that doesn't help, try deleting/moving the maps (and any mods you have) out of the KF directories

i too get this error once in a while, whenever i disconnect from a changing between maps and try to go check my perk status and achievements. i have to completely cancel out the game and start over, then it would work.

I get it every once in a while as well, but a restart of KF fixes it. It does not affect the leveling of perks or achievements though.

yeah I have been noticing this too whenever I disconnect from the game when the map is trying to change.... I thought its from my side since I havent seen anyone post about this...

Anyways another problem: it seems that any servers you add to your favorites dont get saved at all coz all the servers I faved is not showing up at all....

I can recreate this problem by using the "no dramatic events" mutator which is supposed to remove the slow-motion zed time instead it produces this error every time.
When the mutator is/ inst enabled its like a on/off switch for this problem

The problem has appeared by me too. First of all, I can't access the achievements, clicking it in the menu does nothing. But what really angers me is the fact that I can't play most of the maps, it just shows me the error and denies the access to most maps that were working fine a week ago.

My problems started after I upgraded from win7 32-bit to 64-bit. I had Steam on a separate partition and it repaired itself and all continued running well. Until a few days ago all went down the drain. I deleted everything, reinstalled Steam and downloaded KF only to see that the error now pops up even more often.

the error will go away if you log on to another server without the anti-block mutator. it sorts of 'reset' the error. this way, you don't have to delete the files..

you should be able to fix this permanently by installing the proper version from here:

all you have to do is drop the .u and .ucl file into the kf .\system folder. then your game will run the installed mutator for servers that have it, instead of downloading old versions or using the cached file.

Please try Verifying Game Cache in Steam. A whole slew of people were unable to get the full update earlier due to the massive amount of downloads going on in Steam due to the giant sale that's been going on.

did you follow the directions above, or are we just going to pout about this? if problem is the bad antiblock mutator then it's out of their hands, either you or server admin have to update this.

there is another situation where if steam updates the client, or you somehow get disconnected, kf can still run but gives this same error, then just restart steam and/or let it update your files. otherwise I never see it anymore, no problems getting perk info since latest versions of kf/antiblocker.

I'm sorry for bumping an old thread, but it's the same issue and I wouldn't want to create a duplicate thread.

I believe this error has returned, I started getting errors within single player when trying to select a perk, and being met with the message "Unknown Steam error prevented access to this" as well as when I click the Profile and Achievements button in the main menu. I also verified the games integrity as well as defragging, which didn't solve it, to check it wasn't just me, I asked a friend who has Killing Floor, he has the same problems, and our perks aren't progressing, apart from in multiplayer. But after our perks have advanced in multiplayer, they reset to the previous stats the next time I play Killing Floor in either Solo or Multi.

I solved this issue my way.
Since I play with friends on Steam, then when connecting to them through the game (server list), it gives this error. But when you connect through steam (right-click on friend--> join game) then it doesn't give that error.

I've looked inside KFGui.int and still can't seem to find the line that says:

"[SteamAccessProvider]
AccessProvider=False"

This is probably just due to looking quickly, but I've done a search and it can't even find a line by that name.

If you can't find the line then creat one.

You just add

[SteamAccessProvider]
AccessProvider="False"

that to the end of file.

This works for me.
