Well, will you give away Trine's OST for download?

Thank you very much.

PD: It's a great and brilliantly designed game. It has been so much time since I played an Arcade/Puzzle game. I hope you can offer also the map editor...

Well, the main theme is available for free on the composer's website:

I don't think so Mithrandit0x.
On the composers site it's said, that it will be for sale.

Edit by JoelFB: I deleted this as it's a bit of a grey area. Ari would prefer during this launch period that people would not post instructions of this, because he spent so much extra effort on the soundtrack... I hope everybody understands. (I took a copy of the original post just in case anyhow.)

Ari (the composer) will soon have the music available at his site at www.aritunes.com at a much better quality and higher bitrate and also in lossless FLAC, and correctly tagged and with some artwork. If you really like the music I'm sure Ari would appreciate the support. I'm not sure if he was going to have an extra song or two as well. He put a lot of effort into it and I guess we all agree it sounds great. :)

OMG the music in the crystal cave level (I dont remember the exact name, but its like the 5th level I think) is soo beautiful and relaxing! If he sales his music separatly I will certainly buy this one ^^

Keep in mind the music is freely available with the game. [...] Of course you're free to support the composer by buying the soundtrack as well, and I encourage it.

Edit by JoelFB: Instructions removed, see below. (I have a backup copy of the whole message in case of problems.)

Please don't post instructions of ripping the tracks from the game data files, sorry. They are there, yes, but at this point Ari and we prefer that the instructions aren't posted. Otherwise we may need to encrypt the files and we'd rather not do that.

I hope you can offer also the map editor...

Seeing as how it (appearantly) went with the Shadowgrounds Level Editor, I believe that Frozenbyte may lean towards "No map editor for Trine" (not ill meant FB, I really like the Editor for Shadowgrounds and will release my Survival map in... well when it's finished =P in a week if everything goes well?). I too hope that a Level Editor will be released for Trine but... I would say there is a higher chance that such a thing will not be released for Trine unfortunately.

Absolutely beautiful music. It's one of the things that really struck me... exactly like when I watched Ratatouille for the first time: the music is above the norm quality wise

So you're saying that when we bought the game, we didn't actually buy the music included with it?

Hm.

Are we not allowed to take screenshots and look at them later (outside of the game), as well?

Have you bought the individual tracks played on the radio stations when buying a GTA 3-4 era game?

Answer: No. Don't be ridiculous.

Fortunately, music licenses don't fully work that way. Frozenbyte most likely paid Ari for the use of his music for Trine. I imagine it working similar to music in motion picture. Also, in most programs it is copyright infringement to mess with the programming of the software. I am sure there are a million other reasons that I couldn't begin to grasp.
Regardless: If you like Ari's music, support him.

I agree with Chrono. If you like Ari's work, support him.

Ari has put together a truly phenomenal soundtrack. I will definitely be buying this one.

Hi everybody!

Thank you very much for your support and the positive feedback, it's the most rewarding side of the art creation process! :) I really wanted to make a soundtrack that is unique and close to my heart. I contributed much extra time and effort making it, one of the reasons being that I made it for the memory of my father.

And yes, as stated above, Trine Soundtrack is now available at www.aritunes.com !

Visit my blogs also - I try to write some interesting stories about my work and try to bring you some inside knowledge from game music and audio industry (usually coloured with some humorous touch).

Oh, I made some suggestions why you should get Trine Soundtrack ;)

I agree with the majority of your suggestions to associate Trine's soundtrack into your everyday stuff.

I would like to add that you need to stop spying on me whilst I dress up as an elf ballerina, that's personal business!

Hah, someday you might find yourself thinking how fun it really can be ;)

But seriously, if something like that would have happened while I was composing the soundtrack, that would've been only inspirational. :D

Just tried the demo on PS3 today and fell in love with the music. The soundtrack is now purchased and listening to it right now! My favorite track is 'Dragon Graveyard' ,and my goodness, those symphonic melodies are amazing.
Congratulations on a fantastic soundtrack/album/Opus Sir Ari! :)

As much as I love the soundtrack, €9.95 seems way too much. That's $15 US right now, $5 more than I paid for the game itself! I think Ari should try a "pay what you want" model like World of Goo did. I'd like to pay for the music, but not $15.

There might be news about the soundtrack soon... ;)

Oh and for all you fans out there (and even if you're not a fan of Trine or the soundtrack) JOLLY XMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Remember to play games on holiday seasons :)

sry, but this is to expensive . . . to expensive in a "i-can-get-it-free-with-a-youtube-rip-program" time

more expensive than the game atm ;)

Paid 30€ for Trine and 12,99€? for Soundtrack and I don't regret doing so. I think makers of such a wonderful game and soundtrack deserve the support.

Is there any chance at all there will be a packaged CD soundtrack like the one for Shadowgrounds?

JoelFB

I'm not sure how much Ari follows this right now... but from what I know, there's no immediate plans to release the music on a real CD. It could still happen in the future but at least not very soon.

Well, I went to check on AriTunes just now, and saw that the price had been lowered slightly to €7.50. :D Jumped on it as I had a bit of PayPal money left over from an eBay refund that I couldn't be bothered to withdraw.

GOG.com offers some extra downloadable stuff like digital manuals, wallpapers, concept art, and yes, soundtracks, to the people who bought the game (if available).
(Check their Beyond Good & Evil (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/beyond_good_and_evil) page for instance.)
It would be nice if Steam did something similar.
Since Steam games are newer there would be a premium price for these "special editions", but it would still be nice to be able to download soundtracks (and concept art, etc.) using Steam.

Edit:

And they're doing exactly that for Trine 2. :)
Besides a boxed collector's edition, there is a Steam one with a digital art book and soundtrack.
