Where's Ankh 1?

I'd like to play the Ankh games, but I don't want to start with playing the second game. I don't want to get into it and then find out I dont understand stuff in the storyline becuase I haven't played the first game. So where is the first game? Why are Ankh 2 and 3 for sale but not 1? Anyone know anything about this?

I've played through Ankh 1 before but no longer have my copy so I'd really like to be able to play through that one again. Anyone know if/when we'd see it added?

Interestingly enough wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ankh_(computer_game)) reports that the 2 we have are actually the 3rd and 4th in the Ankh series.

Just gotthe retail version of Ankh-Reverse of the Curse installed and playing on Win7 64 yesterday. It took the Vista32 patch to do so. Something they don't even bother providing to Gamespot for example. So the game doesn't run on Vista and above without a patch. Since Steam and 3rd parties suck so bad at providing us fully patched 3rd party games I don't see it coming to Steam any time soon.

FYI, The patch consists in replacing the "audiere.dll" file with an updated one.

Are the first 2 games needed to play 2+3?

It looks like the first game wasn't even on a Windows/Mac platform, so it shouldn't be necessary to play. I've just finished 1 and am about to start 2; I would presume knowing the plot from 1 would be helpful but you could catch up rapidly. Ankh 1 has a different US publisher (VivaMedia) than 2 and 3 (Strategy First). I'm sure that's why it's not on Steam while 2 and 3 are.
