View Full Version : Steam Media player doesn't start smooth on Vista like it does on XP

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who has this problem
on XP the screen slowly fades to a black screen and then the video plays in full-screen (unless you press something to make the player play the video in windowed mode)

but in vista it fades to a black screen, then goes back to the desktop, then you see the steam Media player in windowed mode for a split second and only then the player goes into full screen mode, but not very smoothly at all, a little sluggish, dunno how to put it in words...

This is sort of annoying, either the fade into full-screen should work on Vista or they should get rid of it on Vista :o

Anyway because this annoyed me on Vista, I just started playing the videos with other video players, but the thing is I liked this fade effect in XP, so I hope this gets fixed. :p

I don't really understand why Valve created this forum section when they never read it or do anything about the complaints. The steam media player app is still not updated to work properly with Vista or Windows 7.
And why did they even have to make this stub application with Windows Media Player Active X control. They could have just launched WMP or any other associated video player instead. There is no real need for this fading stuff. Sure it's neat when it works but in this case it does not work (on Windows Vista and Windows 7 anyways) so they should just get rid of it if they can't fix it.

I have this problem on windows 7. It'd be nice to have it fixed.

agreed, kind of ruins the whole point of having an integrated player.

Hey Valve, do you read this at all? This bug is OLD in Vista.

uh, it's due to Windows Media Player 11 not playing correctly. That is, WMP 11 lags a bit on Vista and some windows 7 pc. I have no problem with this in 7 but in Vista, i do. If you even try, go and restart your pc and then try to play anything- a music or video file. You will find that it takesa long time to startup.

you launch it by playing a video from steam, of course.
