Retail is 1.2, Steam has 1.0...
How do we contact Steam to tell them this? I find it unacceptable that Valve allows outdated games on Steam, wtf is so hard about a patch?
I would start by contacting the developer.

do you have any idea of where I'd find contacts with the devs?
And why doesn't Steam have "standards"?
Like how Xbox forces devs to have achievements, widescreen, surround sound, etc.
Steam should force devs to have the Steam version updated to the newest version.

The developer has probably closed down
edit: Doesn't seem so. Saber Interactive (http://www.saber3d.com/) is the company that developed the game, however you will probably have to contact the publisher (activision) to get the game updated on Steam.

I got this response from Activision:
Hello,
For an inquiry such as this, you should contact Steam Support for assistance as because Steam uses its own platform to distribute games, it should work to ensure that the patches that are released are compatible with the Steam versions of the game. Have you already tried downloading and installing the 1.2 patch for the game using the current 1.2 patch that is available?
The Retail patch does NoT work. so where do I tell/ask Steam about this?

see? Steam is going to be crushed by it's competition if they don't shape up.
Now how should I contact Steam? Via that support account question thing?

That is such bull from STEAM. Why the f*ck did I just buy this game if STEAM doesn't even have it up to date!?
If STEAM doesn't have the latest patches, buying a game should come with a huge disclaimer, like: "You agree to buy and outdated product that we couldn't be bothered with to get an update for." Bet they won't sell much games that way, eh?! I guess that's the whole point.

I thought part of the purpose and appeal behind Steam was that it updated your games for you.
Timeshift is 1.0. There is a 1.2 patch.

MP is dead.
Also, why won't you install it manually?

well, this game has a big problem. I tried to install patch 1.2 whatever. it didn't work. plus, certain chapter(?) after loading, it doesn't change to gaming screen. it isn't responsible. I have no problem with other games. every time when I open the game, video driver is not compatible message? well, I have AMD driver 11.3 version. why isn't it compatible? or is this ♥♥♥♥ty game too old to support? I feel like wasting my $20. normally, I finished 95% of games I purchased. some games just turn me off like this game. that's why it's not 100% completion.

It is compatible. Its just the game has broken detection for drivers.....
I might look into a community patch to fix that issue, as well as to bump it up to 1.2, since no one else cares.....

It's a little more complicated than broken driver detection. Rather, it's a shader/texture compatibility issue. I've been experimenting with RivaTuner, to try and enable different shader/textures modes (which, allegedly, should make it go). Unfortunenately, I haven't been able to get it to work so far.
The only known 'solution' is to downgrade to 169.x drivers; which no sane person would ever do at this point (I doubt my GTX 580 would even work with those obsolete drivers).

Strange, well the executable hack I made works for my GTX460, on latest drivers, so....

* Updating the needed patch archive files
* Updating the game executable to 1.2, from the original patcher and removing Securom.
* Bypassed the driver/shader checks via allowing the check to always pass, regardless of driver version/what the function for checking the video card returns.

Pardon my daftness, but how do you bypass the driver/shader checks?? Is there a patch available I'm unaware of? I would *really* love to get this game to finally work. :)
At any rate, your help is much appreciated.

By modifying the game executable in a debugger.
Course that means by reverse engineering it violates the EULA, but when developers ship unpatched/broken games on Steam...I think its fair game. (http://mudlord.info/crap/re/TimeShiftUnofficial1.2_mudlord.rar)
Back up your original TimeShift.exe first if anything goes wrong...

Dude! I was just going to ask you whether you could maybe post the exe, as modifying the exe is a little out of my area of expertise. :) If this works, though, you'll be my new hero!

Sadly, the new exe didn't solve the issue for me. :( Game bypasses the driver check, but soon thereafter crashes nonetheless loading shaders.
P.S. Seems steam version is at 1.3 actually. I installed the 1.2 patch manually nonetheless, but to no avail: game keeps crashing.

Steam version is at 1.3?
Never knew that. That complicates things. Maybe I could try and make a loader so it doesnt interfere with the Steam protection.

Well, user.ini says 'version = 13'. And if you try and manually install patch 1.2, it will tell you a higher version is already installed (and then goes on to install it anyway, btw).
Thing of it is, though, I've never heard of a 1.3 patch; so it may not be real, and just be steam's artificial way of 'preventing' people from applying a manual patch.

yeh, could be.
either way, wouldnt hurt to check for sure if the game exe is 1.0....
