I've personally read enough bad reviews and negative perceptions about this game to furstrate me. I have been an FPS' junkie since I was like 12 years playing Wolfenstein 3D on my SNES. I love shooters. Half Life, Unreal, Quake, Wolfenstein, Doom, even Halo. I loved Battlefield 2142 and Quake Wars:ET. I still play Team Fortress 2 every once and awhile.
I think I know a good shooter when I see one. For me, graphics are at the bottom of the priority list. Gameplay is the key element.
This game is incredible. I haven't had so much fun since I discovered Team Fortress Classic however many years ago. This game takes teamwork and squad tactics to a whole new level. I read a lot of permature judgements about this game and get confused. People want to complain about the sniper rifle, and headshots, and lockons. Other people want to cry about lack of community and minor bugs in the game. Well, news flash for you people; I have personally never purchased or played a game that was perfectly polished and bug/glitch free straight out of the box on release day. To you people, give me a f*cking break, more importantly, give the game designers a break.
This game works beautifully. It's incredibly smooth, and I hate to say it but the graphics are beautiful. It's no crysis but who cares? The maps are absolutely HUGE, the dynamic missions force you to use the entire map. Without the DCM system, their would just be huge areas of maps that would be no mans lands. The feeling you get when you are running towards an objective, and you look at your radar and see 2 or 3 teamates overdriving right behind you, is priceless.
So what if not everyone can Rambo through a squad of 5 guys by himself. I know some people who can, I know some people who use sensor blockers and throw off entire squads of guys and escape after killing 2-3 of them.
This game takes practice. The lock-on system introduces an entire game dynamic by giving you a basis to be at least a little intimidated even by a bot. One lockon may not kill you, depending on the modules, but it won't leave you with a smile on your face either. The name of the game is seek and destroy, and their is no time for extended duels between two players. It's a team game with team objectives and it just works.
I love this game. I hope the community gets bigger, I want to spread the word that this game doesn't suck. All I hear about while I'm playing from people is how awesome it is. How much they like this or that.
How dare anyone compare this game to Halo. If I were to do so I'd say Halo is to Section 8 as Pee Wee baseball is to the major leagues. Halo is for Xbox joysticks and casual players. Don;t get me wrong, I loved the original Halo, but they butchered the game more and more with the following sequels. That's a whole other discussion.
Anyway. If you're thinking about getting this game, don't be discouraged by ♥♥♥♥ty reviews. Ask people about it, or go buy it. It's so much fun. It has a bit of a learning curve but once you get it, you'll love it.
Thanks for reading.

Thanks for this post. I bought the game last night after reading this. Have to say WOW it's really fun game.
As for STEAM GFWL etc problems
I had zero probs starting the game or logging into LIVE.
After reading about all the probs people are having I was a tad concerned about having the same problem.
Somethings that might have made it easier for me.
1.I have a xbox 360 with gold LIVE acct.
2.I have had a hotmail acct IE yournamehere@hotmail.com
3.It's been tied to my LIVE acct. This used to be called MS passport etc..
So I bought the game, downloaded it, started the game, logged into live and bam done.
Sucks that other people are not having such an easy time.
Only bug I have had is ranked server stopped showing up. And I would see a scroll msg saying "online play is not available right now" But I could search or join fav. servers just fine.
Fix I found is to logout and back into GFWL (LIVE) in game and then ranked servers show up.
Sorry for a goofy post about 50 things, but I really like this game! It's super fun so far, just need more people to give it a shot and join in the fun.

I agree. I just wish they would improve the browser. I have had trouble finding populated servers. I contacted Timegate support and they recommended to adjust my browser to not search for empty servers because the browser window only holds 50 servers. But you are right the dynamic gameplay is what this game does best. The single player is merely a trainer and nothing else.

How was it irrelevant. You post was way off topic & not needed.

Everything works fine, and worked fine from install to joining a MP server. Yeah ... irrelevant. At lest I'm trying to fig out why people have problems and not trolling.

that is best answered by whether a box and booklet is worth the drive to the store. games are gonna sell for the same digitally or retail (at elast in the US)
I think it's an ok game. to be fair, i have been playing a few others and didn't give it full attention - also, i played on day one and two before people were really playing as teams, im guessing. i have been looking for a very good, team game - and if this is as you(Grudge) say it is i will have to give it an honest look!
thanks.

$50 is a lot of money, but think of how much work the designers put into the game, for years even. You just have to buckle down and buy the game. It's worth it, I think you'll like it.

Actually, it's not trolling and it's not off topic, but way to go there with the accusations. Two thumbs way up.
It is irrelevant. You having a Live account, whether it be silver or gold is irrelevant to the fact that people cannot play the game because "Games for Windows Failed To Initialize", meaning it failed to start.
Your accounts tenure or origin is meaningless when you cannot even use it. Just as meaningless is the email you provided with it. So you used a hotmail email. Congratulations, you're email is provided by Microsoft. Whoop-de-doo. It is meaningless and irrelevant to what is a TECHNICAL issue.
Also, any account registered to an Xbox Live or Games For Windows Live account is by default tied toghether through what was indeed called Microsoft Passport... but like I said, being that it is a technical issue: I-R-R-E-L-E-V-A-N-T.

Saw the previews and videos on IGN. Thought it looked awesome
Saw the negative reviews and criticisms from people here. Thought they were just people who couldn't play the game well.
Bought it when it came out
LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT!!!
No problems getting on with LIVE
No problems getting into a game
No problems ingame
All my friends who play online are getting into it now because of me showing them
This game is what we have been waiting for, a good PC shooter
To all those who support the game, we have indeed found gold
To all those who say its horrible and insist that they are right to say so, pull you head out of your ♥♥♥ and quit whining. Nobody's forcing you to play the game. Go back to playing Counter-Strike or World of Warcraft and ♥♥♥♥♥ there

While I agree that the game is fun, it really isn't necessary to bait people with criticism of games that a lot of us like as well as like this game. The game does have it's issues, the question is whether or not you can look past them. If you can, it is a really great experience, sometimes more than others during the game. If you can tap into what the developers intended the experience is really intense.

1) Ever heard of a retail disc? They don't tie to your Steam account. There's only a few retail disc that do. Such examples are: NBA 2K9, all VALVe titles, Dawn of War II, and a very select few more. Else wise, they do not.
2) So my computer sucks because of a failed implementation of Games For Windows Live in Section 8 that Time Gate's PR has already acknowledged it as such (http://forums.timegate.com/showthread.php?t=15630)? Real good logic there man. I mean, that's as good as "Disable your anti-virus"...
...
Excuse me, I must apologize: "Disabling your anti-virus" is actually a much more logical solution and one that might actually work for some people.
Edit: My, my, what do we have here (http://support.timegate.com/kb_article.php?ref=5575-UJLZ-9083)?
Edit 2: And here? (http://forums.timegate.com/showthread.php?t=15682)
3) I never said that people who have an Xbox account have a hotmail account by default now did I? I said that anyone who has an account with Live by default has it linked to their email account which they registered their Live account with. And then guess what happens? Their email account, whether it be Yahoo, AOL, or Googlemail, becomes a Passport account.
Please do research and come back with a sound and sensible argument before making yourself look like nothing else but a jerk by engaging in personal attacks.
How do you know that he doesn't have more than one account? I do. Also, he only has Source games tied to that account. Could be he ties all third party games to a second account. I didn't know, and neither do you, just sayin'. But as to the rest of it, not taking sides.
Well, I don't have more than one account. Two much of a pain. I tie all third party games to my account. It's just easier to manage it for me that way. Anyway, enjoy a plus to your reputation for being sensible.

"Live by default has it linked to their email account which they registered their Live account with. And then guess what happens? Their email account, whether it be Yahoo, AOL, or Googlemail, becomes a Passport account."
Try again. Maybe you need to do the research. This was not always the case. Xbox live when it came out had no passport suport. MS add'ed this when the OS updated to xbox360 andyou could use MSN messenger thingy. After that point your passport/live/email was automaticlay tied togeather. Before that it was all MS gaming zone. Not GFWL. The ZONE to LIVE Again my bad, to many years gaming.
I had old "3yr old info" As I said in my 1st post I had done all this crap years ago. And I had zero probs getting this game to run.

And posting some thoughts as to why maybe I did not have probs like some other pepple with GFWL. Only to have somebody berate my post. So maybe see you again in another five years to post about how good Section 8 II is. Peace.

Incorrect. Midnight was right when he said your 3 points were irrelevant to a technical issue being experienced by many users with fantastic gaming platforms. It was FAR from a personal attack, simply a statement of fact, but you took it personally. Just your claim that he was "starting crap" with such a simple, logical sentence is absurd. I suppose you'll take offense to that too.
Also, his other posts were not trolling. People like to chuck that word around a lot and it seems very few can actually make the distinction between when it's going on and when it isn't. None of the posts in this thread are troll posts. Read that again: none. And his not having a steam copy of section 8? Absolutely and totally irrelevant to whether he's trolling here. It has nothing to do with it. At all. People can discuss S8 here regardless of whether they have a steam copy.
So in closing, he didn't "berate" your post. He said one sentence. And I doubt you'll admit you overreacted. What he said was correct, it doesn't mean you're a bad guy, or that you're stupid, it just means that the things you thought might help other people actually won't, because they don't have anything to do with the actual problem. But judging from your other posts I fully expect you to ignore every logical thing I just said and call me a troll.

Good grief. Some much drama. ;)
I'll answer my own question.
Game runs great on Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit, with an EVGA GTX260 core 216, AMD X2 6400+, and 4Gb of RAM.
LOve the game. Really runs sweet, right out of the box. Graphics are beautifully rendered. Scene scapes remind me of Mass Effect.
This is what ET"QW would be like on mega steroids. Jet packs! Mega Sprint! Mega Armor! Who cares about the back story, just do the objective! Respawning from orbit! "AIR BRAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" OMG.
Now all they have to do is make it available to Game Servers and my ET:QW clan is gonna set one up. Until then, I guess it's GFWL?

Having set up the LIVE account to connect prior to using it in-game could very well have solved the possibilities of the issues. And how is it anything BUT technical?

Game Failed. Great Game. But TG killed it themselves. Lock On destroyed the game for most, or it would seem all players who got into it. Dedicated server hosting is a joke, was that way out of the gate. Terrible and i mean terrible jittered play with 32 players. Crazy Forum moderators! GFWL turned everyone who might have played not 2.
I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone. I would sooner launch U2XMP and play by myself then play a game with one maybe two players in a server and dumbass bots running around. Yes thats what it is now.
Anyone who spoke out about the terrible direction TimeGate was taking the game was banned, and posts deleted. Hell they banned ten of my IPs! And i was dedicated played all the time.

I just bought it on PSN for 10$, since my computer can't run anything without butchering the graphics, and I can't bear to do that to this game. It took all of about 10 minutes into the demo for me to decide this is a great game. I would have payed 50$ for it. You can guess where I will be spending the next 2 months. Still wish I could play it on PC though...
If you're wondering why I'm on the SPUF if I don't have a great PC, I hail from the Team Fortress 2 forum, and I am a big fan of that game. One of the few games my PC can run without ruining the graphics.

Do NOT believe anyone when they tell you lockon ruined this game cause it didnt. you dont know your info at all do you? they sued southpeak because they were not giving TG the profits from any sales of the game and were also lieing to TG about the sales. know what your talking about BEFORE you start typing.

I have been gaming for two decades, and am in the business. TG and Section 8 is a prime example of how to fail.
