If you make a post that someone likes, they can click the 'scales' icon at the bottom of your name to give you reputation.

I have yet to find a way to lower someones reputation, which is too bad, because I've found many posts that made me want to punch my monitor.

You could disapprove peoples' posts on the old DoD forums, which would lower that persons' reputation. I'm not sure why you can't do that now.

Ohh almost on 100!

I tipped him over the edge... he sails close to the wind but usually is at least interesting to read, even if his opinions aren't to everyone's taste...

Given my postcount vs rep, it's safe to say if you want a big score (for all the good it'll do you), you won't get it from coasting down the middle of the road (like me) ;)

Quick question, there was a page where you could see all your posts where you got reputation on. I can't seem to find it now. Does someone have link to it? Thanks, +rep for the first one to find it! :D

Also: I guess it's better the have an higher reputation then postcount is it?

Since there are a lot of rep and infraction related threads etc. so I decided to make this rep and infraction FAQ.

-------------------

What is rep?

Reputation is mainly given to helpful posts.
Reputation itself doesnt do anything at the moment other than show how "reputable" a user is.

How do I add to others' reputation?

Press the silver scales underneath the poster's username.

How much rep do I give?

+1 rep power for the first 50 posts you have given
+1 rep power for every 1000 posts you post
+1 rep power for every year you have been on the forums

Can mods give out negative rep?

No; only admins can.
However; moderators can arrange for your rep to be reset to 0 if you abuse the system.

Full list of mods and admins. (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showgroups.php)

How do I check how much rep I have?

Your reputation is displayed underneath your name; between your join date and post count.

How do I check how much rep Ive got for a certain post?

You click the scale on one of your own posts that has been repped.
There you can see how many people have repped you. You can not see how much has each person given.

Example of single rep on a single post (http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo25/Suomis/reputation2.jpg)
Example of multiple reps on a single post (http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo25/Suomis/repwnage.png)
Example of a post with a rep with 0 rep power. (http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo25/Suomis/reputation.jpg)

How can I see who gave me rep?

Go to your User CP (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/usercp.php).
It displays the last 5 counts of reputation that you have been given.

It should look like this (http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo25/Suomis/CP.png)

Why does it say I have been given rep but I still have 0 rep?

The person who repped you would have had 0 reputation power.

Can I see comments on rep given?

Yes, click the post you got rep for.
It should look like this (http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo25/Suomis/reputation5.png).

How often can you rep?

You may rep 5 times per 24 hours, and each single reputation unlocking exactly 24 hours after giving it.

Do I lose rep myself for giving rep?

Of course not, that'd be silly!

What happens if the post/thread I get repped for is deleted?

The User CP info is deleted, but you keep the reputation points the post/s recieved.

What is an infraction?

An infraction is a warning for behavior that is not allowed. You will get banned for 10 infraction points.

What can I get an infraction for?

Advertising

Repeatedly Posting in Incorrect Forum(RARELY used.)
Abusing or encouraging the abuse of the Reputation System
Abusing the post reporting system
Inappropriate Language
Insulted Other Member(s)

Admitting / Advocating Software Piracy
Promoting Cheats / Exploits
Spammed Advertisements
"Backseat" Moderating
Bumping old threads
Spam

(a few are missing since a mod didnt tell me them)

Where can I see my infractions?

In the User CP, linked above. If you have infractions, it should look like this. (http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo25/Suomis/infractiomn.png)

How many points can be given for a single infraction?

The mods may choose from anywhere between 0 and 10, 0 being just a warning and 10 being an instant ban.

Are all infractions the same length?

Lightest one is 1 month and that's for signature rule break. Most are 6 months and some are Never expiring ones. Mods do have a custom time though, but the 6 month one is the standard.

Who can give out infractions?

Only moderators and admins can give out infractions.

May mods check normal users infraction situation?

Mods can see anyones infractions and even for other moderators as well.

Can mods edit infractions even after giving it out?

Mods can reverse an infraction but not edit them. Admins might be able to edit them but not normal moderators. The infraction will still be visible but it'll say "Reversed".
It looks like this. (http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/8978/86010502.jpg)

Do infractions reset?

Your infraction points expire, meaning that the points are not valid anymore, but they will always stay in your infraction history.

What can you do if you feel that an infraction you received was not justified?

Contact the moderator/admin who gave you the infraction.

For the time being i have been here i have seen only people giving rep to individuals who give away games  coz for that time they are Gods.
Others are the more helpful ones :D who reply to problems.
-ve rep comes in form of "report" , hope no one gets that :)

You may have already given 5 rep in 24 hours. you will regain each one 24 hours from when it was given. also, I am not sure but you may have 0 rep power anyway since you have been on the forums less than a year and made less than 50 posts.

If you make a post that someone likes, they can click the 'scales' icon at the bottom of your name to give you reputation.

I have yet to find a way to lower someones reputation, which is too bad, because I've found many posts that made me want to punch my monitor.

Seems strange that this long time member got himself banned..........
