First suggestion i would really really like to see is, to have your friends on your friends list show their name above their head in game, this would make finding your friends and following them around working as a team way easier, its really hard looking at every player trying to find your friend. I think this could be added easily, a name over your friends head and maybe their arvatar too, in all steam games like , CSS, DoDS, Insurgency, hl2 dm.
Second suggestion is to have file sharing/file sending in the chat menu for your friends list. Some times aim and trillian (especially when new updates come out) bug out and wont let me send files to my friends, having file send on steam would really help when this happens.
Thanks for reading this i really hope the first suggestion gets implemented soon, i think that would help a lot of players to play with their friends more.

I agree with the file sending feature.
However I do NOT agree with the name's above people's head's. ( That's a game feature, NOT a feature for steam )

File sharing is a dangerous idea for the steam client.

File sharing is a dangerous idea for the steam client.
Only for the idiot's. ;)
It's not like it's forcing file's, I'm sure if Valve added this feature it'll pop-up a window to the receiver before accepting the file saying "Warning: be careful, some users may send you malware, trojans, etc. The file may potentially be dangerous. Blah blah blah"

Yea, just like the "never tell your password to anyone" prevents that from happening.
Oh wait.....
Why feed the phishers new ways to try & steal accounts?
Someone else suggested file sharing & it was shot down real fast.
In my HONEST opinion, steam has no use for it.

Well since we have the new e-mail verification feature, I think this will work very well.

And what's to prevent someone from sending a file infected with a keylogger to gain access to the person's PC?
Nothing.

Just send files to your friends and you wont get a trojan/keylogger, and by friends i mean people you know in real life (All my friends on steam are people i know in real life). Who would accept files from someone they don't know anyways. It shouldn't be any more dangerous than aim or trillians file send. They could have a pop up box asking if you want to accept, and it would say something like "some users may send trojans/keyloggers be carefull".

Just because it's from someone that you know, doesn't mean it isn't infected.
I've know viruses and trojans to install themselves in USB drives that you connect to the PC. Whats makes you think there aren't viruses and trojans that don't replicate themselves into other files?

And if they were to get hijacked & the hijacker wanted to send you an infected file, you would believe it to be safe & get screwed.

When the people on Steam community can't grasp the fact that someone is scamming you, it's not a good idea to give them something like this.
Before btw they had this warning that every time you posted your password you would get up a warning window telling you not to give it away.
They did it anyway. So this little warning about "Some people may send trojan and such" ain't going to work at all.
If they fall for the "I'm a Vac admin" or any other stupid thing like that they are sure as hell not gonna follow a pop up advice.
It'll only start more problems too.
There's email for this. Plus there's the whole issue of being able to send a file to another user because of his router settings and like said before, people sending you keyloggers. Yes, people will open them and then cry on the forums. If it can happen in college (multiple times) it can happen here (multiple times).

So aside from any technical details.. steam won't do this because we have to cater to stupid people?

Correct.
If you want to transfer files just use another system.
MSN might work good, ICQ is also ok.

File share would be nice for some, but the "making it easier to get your account hacked" argument is getting really old. In my book, if you get your account hacked you deserve to have it hacked. (having an easy password or willingly giving your info away)
I have NEVER had anything hacked in the 10 years give or take of using the internet.....wanna know why? because i'm not stupid.
But again, if your get our account hacked you deserve to have it hacked.
I'm not being an ♥♥♥ i'm just speaking the cold hard truth.

File sharing would be key. I feel like it used to be possible?

I have steam and xfire. Xfire has the two features I thought would be cool in Steam. one of them being the file transfer. The problem is that in todays age its too easy to get hijacked by malware, and infect other computers, and this would make it easier.

Steam actually used to have file sharing capability, but it was removed out of security concerns.
IMO, this should be added back in. Maybe just have it be turned off by default or something like that.
