I have started to get a bit concerned about my machines temperatures. I read somewhere that one thing that might help would be to clean out the fan of my laptop.

I got the instructions to do it but that would require me to pretty much completely open up my laptop. My skills with computers are not high enough to do that :D.

So anyone have any ideas for an easier way to clean out the dust from the fan ?

Use compressed air and blow the vents.

Depending on your laptop model you may be able to access the heatsink and fan just by opening a cover, much like replacing RAM or your hard disk.

On a laptop it would be impoosible. Ona computer you *can* vaccuum it, but never do it while the fan and HSF is mounted becasue that vaccuum is a HUGE static machine, and can torch the components on a motherboards quicker than you can say...well, you know.

I use compressed air. Hold the fan still while doing this as compressed air can really get one of those fans zinging and damage it, but don;t use metal instruments. Use something nonconductive and be careful. Don't jab, and do it like you're performing surgery...because you are. Things are delicate in there. Laptops are terrible about getting mucked up with dust, and they really get that dust jammed up in there.

I'd do this outside if possible too, becasue you will probably have a cloud of dust that comes out if you haven't done it in awhile. I've blown out freind's laptops that had lung choking clouds of dust come out! hahaha
