Hey guys, I am building a system (My first time! :D)and I need your help.

I know the basics, and by reading a couple of tutorials here and there, it looks easy.
I have taken apart my current PC and played around with it and put it back successfully
without having anything blow up. I was previously going to buy a prebuilt, but since it
will save me a couple hundred bucks, why not just build one? Okay so here is what I need...

It has to include:

An i7 920
A GTX 285 Graphic card (or a 295 if in price range)
At least 4 or 6 gb ddr3 1333 ram (the more the merrier)
1 TB HDD seems fine 7200 rpm or something I don't really know what's the best
Power supply can be whatever it needs to be to run everything
A VERY NICE case
A good motherboard with good built in wifi, etc
And for an OS... I hear vista x64 is good? Ultimate seems fine...
(Will buy windows 7 later on)
My price range is around 1200$, not including this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236049)
So if you combine the screen + everything, make it less than 1500$
I have everything else / will buy later on in the future... (Mouse, etc.)

Remember, I am a noob at this so don't yell at me if you have
no idea what I am talking about :p. I couldn't find a better
forum to post this if I tried, so here you are, go crazy.

... so here you are, go crazy.
I think you are on the right track

basically to run the 1920 x 1080 x 24" x 60Hz/fps monitor you picked, something like a GTX 275/285 would be a fine video card, but on those the "next gen" $300~$500 cards are coming soon, so beware of buying in that top-end range until that happens
...if you are not needing dual/multi video cards, which no one ever does if they can wait a whole 18months for the next-gen, then the LGA-1366/X58 platform with current Core i7 is kinda hard to stomach....and AM3/Phenom or LGA-1156/Lynnfield would be wiser at your ~$1200 'box' budget

I'm personally more interested in some of your 'keeper' hardware(like not a video card or CPU, which at most last about 18months~3years) like things such as the case, PSU, CD/DVD/BR/SSD/Hard drives and monitor...as those will still be usable long after everything else's time has come and gone

Don't get 4 GB of RAM, the X58 motherboard (which you will need for the i7) works best with triple channel DDR3 so you need three or 6 sticks. 3x2GB is a good bet.

1. So your saying that if I want a single card I will be better off with something like an and phenom 2 x4?

2. And for my current pc parts, trust me, I have a dinasour agp pc that rus slower than my phone, so I need new internal parts.

My current pc is a Sony vaio pcvrx660.

Pentuim 4 1.8 ghz
1 gig ram
80 gb failing hdd
15 inch CRT
Radeon HD 3650 agp x4 not x8.

For Graphics go for a GTX 295 Co-op FTW (single PCB) 1 is good enuf its 2 GPU in 1 anyway,it costs tho.

For PSU get Corsair HX1000W its a 1k Watt PSU,Pros use it and its price is Reasonable.Or go high END like Enermax Evo Galaxy 1250W.Juz dont get the ULTRA PSUs they have SLI complications.

For a MOBO read their specs specially its size, your Case should support your MOBO's size.Try checking out EVGA's i7 MoBos or look @ some cheap MoBos like Asus Rampage.I recommend EVGA MoBos.

As for HDD you dont need a 1Tb (unless youre a Movie,Games,Etc collector).
Go for something like 300-500gb 10k RPM i reccomend Western Digital

And for RAM u HAVE to go for 3x 2gb DDR3 16000mhz,18000mhz,20000mhz sticks go for Corsair or G-skill,yo dont need a 12gb RAM set upunless youre a File transfer maniac.were talking about like 10-20gigs file transferring.

And for CPU Cheapest is the i7 920s grab the DO stepping ver. It overclocks to 4ghz w/o feeding it too much voltage.Like you can achieve 3.8ghz with juz more or less 1.2v using an after market Cooler.

For Cases.its up to you.theres a lot of cases there.try looking out for these HAF 922/932,Corsair Obsidian,Silverstone TJ07.these are good cases for Watercooled or Aircooled set up,VERY LARGE interior space!

as For style.
I recommend the Case im using..Silverstone Raven RV01.

For OS you dont have to buy an OS seriously.u know what i mean.$200+ for juz an OS isnt worth cuz u can get it free somewhere out there haha.betta spend that 200bucks ye have on hardware.

These are jus MY recommendations from my point of view.
you should;
1.Get a Case 1st
2.then PSU
3.then Mobo followed by CPU+RAM (dont forget the CPU cooler)
4.next GPU
it doesnt matter really w/c one 1st but...its good thing to get things in order so you mess up in the future.

Juz buy a hardware part 1 at a time.and dont rush things up.Plan, read, search carefully man. were talking bout money here,so u dun wanna grab a wrong hardware, like i did with those ULTRA PSUs.

Id go with a i7 860/P55/5870 system with that budget. A Corsair 850W will suffice and its not that expensive atm.

Yeah I'd VERY highly recommend getting the 5870 that just came out if you are going high end, amazing performing card and you get direct11 future proofing you a bit.
