View Full Version : Gamerscore equivalent

Had a look around the forum and couldn't see anything like this, which actually surprises me.
We have achievements, why not tie them to something like Xbox Live's Gamerscore? For those who aren't familiar, on Xbox 360 every achievement you get has a numerical value somewhere between 5 and 200. When you unlock that achievement, this is added to your account's Gamerscore which is displayed clearly on your profile. Harder achievements give you more points and vice versa.
OK, it's somewhat meaningless as it doesn't really do anything, but can be interesting to see how your friends fare and I find it encourages me to play games for longer, or sometimes even try new games. I can't see it being difficult or costly to implement so it's not like there are any major downsides to it, and those who aren't interested can simply ignore it.
On a side note, if Valve did implement this I think they would have to award points to everyone who already has achievements in their current Steam games list. :)

I couldn't have put it better myself.

What's the point when probably less than one tenth of the games on Steam use achievements in the first place? Arbitrary gamerscores are the bane of Xbox Live, I would prefer if Steam kept away from them.
All you would see is people using Steam Achievements Manager or some other programs just to cheat their way to the highest gamerscores possible.

The same thing happened on Xbox Live and apparently Microsoft reset their points to zero and branded their account with a 'Cheater' label.
Yes they are ultimately worthless, but so are achievements, so is completing games, so are high-scores, so are stats pages, so are replays. It's all worthless. Gamer points are a bit of fun. I like them on Xbox Live and I'd like them on Steam.

Yea, i would like it if there was a gamerscore type thing, or maybe a place to see achievements which you have alot easier like what GFWL have done or something, but yea i would like to see some sort of score point system, something like that,.

1. get 1337 gamerscore
2. go onto a pub
3. bind "every key here" "say HAHAHAHAH I HAS 1337 GAMERSCORE HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!oneone111111exclamtionmark"
4. wave e-peen around by showing it to everyone
4. ?????
5. PROFIT
i can see this happening in every pub right now if gamerscore was implemented, so i like it, but the 12 year olds who think they r prosauce and try playing comp but fail will screw around and be ♥♥♥♥♥ to everyone, so unfortunately no

More specifically i like the feature where it shows your competition in game. For instance in Trials HD when you go say 100 feet on a level before dying you could see an icon indecating that your friend was only a few feet further than you. Or when you get 3/10 headshots for an achievement it would say "so and so has 12 headshots" This feature instantly strikes at my competative feature where i can quickly look at each mini-game in trials and see that i have a friend beating me in 3, i will immediately play those until i am first.

Yes, this is another great feature (especially the Trials HD example you used). This is really down to developers incorporating these features in their games, but it would be great if Valve supported it.

I came onto the forums to suggest this myself, but am glad the topic is already here :)
I would love to see a SteamScore or something implemented. To all those who say that a Gamerscore is stupid/useless, well, you clearly have never tried for a high score in any of your games. That's fine, just ignore it.
I don't understand people who say they don't want it in Steam. If it's a feature that doesn't actually affect anything, then why do you care? Let those of us who want it, enjoy it.
Plus, I'm so sure that giving a "score" to each achievement will boost sales for the games that offer achievements :)
