Has anyone seen this? I just saw it for the first time after finishing a game of L4D and accidentally hitting "Invite Friends".

It's nice to see. I sometimes hit "Block All Communication" when I try to use the context menu in the friends list. This prevents that AND removes the invite confirmation, which is another button to press. :P
