This is slightly over budget, but that is the cheapest Intel CPU w/ 12MB cache which will really count for gaming. That motherboard also doesn't support DDR3, so I chose the best DDR-1066 I could find. Plus the video card, being in the 2xx class and having 1GB, can't beat the price as it's priced right around what a good 9800 GTX+ 512MB goes for. These 3 items together are $455 ($415 after mail in rebates). All in all should make for a great gaming setup!

And a quick tip with that motherboard, the manual doesn't say it and it's the only thing really people have complained about as far as that motherboard is that when using only 2 sticks of ram, use slots 2 & 4... not 1 & 3

Ok, if the cpu+mem are dead, how do you know that motherboard is "OK"
Corsair make great products, what can I say. I've used them for many years and they have life-time warranty. I just had a stick of DDR400 go up after 6 years of use and they replaced it, no problem. You can't beat their support. Sure the prices aren't the best but it beats going with crap like OCZ or G.Skill

Just trying to help... also was trying to get the best bang for buck but if you really wanna stay @ or below $400 exact, well that's fine too. I'll see what I can do.
