I just found out Saint's Row 2 key from D2D works. I just bought it from there for $5 and registered the key with Steam.

Now, I am curious, do any other D2D keys work with Steam? Especially any games in their $5 sale.

Fuels of War? Ghost Recon series? Assault on Dark Athena? Will these work with steam? Any others?

Yeah, I've seen that, but I was hoping D2D keys were "different" from retail keys.

Oh well.

The only keys I believe will work at SR2 (as you have already found), Defence Grid, maybe Prey (I don't think its on D2D though). FEAR2 wont work (retail will, D2D will not).

The general rule is that trying to register D2D keys won't work but there are the odd games that allow it.

Prey does work from what I hear.

The Zeno Clash D2D key works with Steam, even though it's not listed on the retail key list.

Nope, D2D are not any different then retail CD keys. If a retail key doesn't work for steam, then the D2D key also won't work.

They are different...FEAR 2 D2D cd keys don't work with Steam, retail keys do

best thing to do is check the steam subforum for the game you want to buy on D2D.

I can confirm defense grid and zeno clash

Did the same with Saint's Row 2 :). Good value stuffs, hopefully there'll be Dead Space next week in the EA D2D Sale, and that'll be able to enter.

If the game states that It requires steam ON THE BOX then The Code will work. Other than that, games stated on the support page might also work.

Mmm weird, I always though FEAR2 uses steamworks.

Fear 2 requires Steam, but, for whatever reason, Fear 2 on D2D can't be activated in steam even though retail can, it's really odd, and i don't understand it, it's just the way it is

Well I guess this thread answers my question...I was thinking of downloading some indie games from D2D during their $5 week special and wondering if I could register them thru Steam for the achievements. I'm interested in World of Goo, Defense Grid, Gish, Aquaria, And Yet It Moves, and maybe Trine (I know those last 3 aren't on sale but I'd like to eventually get them). Apparently only Defense Grid would work with Steam.

So my new question is, do the rest of those games ever go on sale for cheap on Steam? I'm faily new so I'm not sure. I got Braid for only $5 so I'm hoping the answer is yes. Braid is awesome which is why I want to try out more indies. If the answer is no, a $15 difference on Goo isn't worth unlocking achievements. Thanks.

steam frequently has sales for games, including those you listed in your post. world of goo and defense grid have all been 5$ at some point on steam as well, and others like trine have had discounts too. we don't know when these sales will happen, but they do. if you are really interested in getting them on steam, wait for the steam christmas sale which usually has most games in the steam store on sale.

yes they will have simular deals on steam ,the surest bet is to wait for the holliday sales at the end of the year.
if deals come sooner thats a bonus
