View Full Version : Half Life: Source - Subtitles
Is there anyway that subtitles could be made for HL: Source?
I'm hard of hearing so I don't know what people are on about.
I'd appreciate any replies.
Thanks guys!. :D

I've always thought of that myself.
Rep for making a good first post.

It be possible for the communtiy to do it. I think the subtitle data is stored in .dat files in a game's \resource\ folder, and there's a .dat compiler in the Source SDK.
Assuming it's possible to just put the .dat files in and have them work out of the box, all you need to do is transcribe all the speech and format it properly (which would be a lot of work).
I'm just wondering if anyone or a group of people would be willing to do it.

I think subtitles can be displayed whenever a specific soundscript plays.
Speech however is not done with soundscripts, so it's probably not possible by the community.

Speech sounds are listed in sound scripts e.g. npc_sounds_barney.txt contains Barney's speech and the strings the game refers to them by, much like the game/level sound scripts.
