So, due to the search function being disabled (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/search.php) (I don't know when this happened, last time I was on steam forums was probably a year or so ago) there may be another post about issues with certain video cards. If this is the case, I apologize.
At any rate, I recently upgraded from a Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 (512mb) to an ASUS EAH5870 (Radeon HD 5870, 1gb) and tried to play Killing Floor on it. However, to my disappointment, I have found that Killing Floor tends to lag quite a bit when in-game. It does fine on menus (server lobby, options, etc), but that's it. Here's my system specs.
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 Wolfdale
Memory: OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB)
Hard Drive: 2x500GB WD Caviar SE16
Video Card: ASUS EAH5870
Keyboard: Logitech G15 Revision 2 USB
Mouse: Razer Diamondback 3G USB
Operating System: Windows Vista Business x64
Motherboard: ASUS P5K Pro
PSU: Gigabyte ODIN PRO(GE-MK20A-D1) 1200W
I'd like to thank anyone who helps me out on this in advance.
Edit: To those suggesting CPU bottlenecking, that's not the case. There would already be performance problems before installing the HD5870. This thread is about there being a substantial performance decrease after switching the HD4870 with the HD5870.
Problem is now solved. I'd like to thank everyone for your suggestions and help.

Wow bro, you have the 8570? DAMN MAN
THAT MUCH COST ATLEAST £2000!
Your CPU is a bottleneck, you are using the latest graphics card with a two year old CPU.
Upgrade to a quad core or a i5/i7 or even a i9 once they come out and your problems will go away.
EDIT: I just noticed you said you use Vista 64bit. That's another possible problem, try updateing all your system drivers to the latest, if that doesnt work then its either vista hates you or i'm right about your cpu.

Vista 64bit doesn't have issues
but you having business makes me wonder..*cough*pirate?*cough*
Since you can't get business at the consumer level :\

WHERE DOES ONE GET A 8570? Holy crap! You're so lucky!!!

One gets an 8570 by meeting Chuck Norris and getting your graphic card baptized by a roundhouse kick to the FACE!!!
Note: One must have an ATi card
Note 2: Nvidias go elsewhere!

Do you think they require you to somehow prove that you're a legally registered business to buy it? lol.

No, I don't see consumers oh I am getting business!
I see people go for the Home Prem, Ultimate most of the time

Killing floor the only game that lags with it? I would say removing all your drivers if you did not do so before installing your card. Could try deleting the killingfloor.ini file also

But it's such a random thing that could have any kind of explanation.
Maybe he needed one of the particular features of Business edition.
Maybe the shop that built his machine had a glut of Vista Business licences they were selling cheap?

Ultimate has everything...tho
Business has only Business stuff...like Server stuff...no features that say hey I play games!

Oh haha wow, horrible typo there in the title )= meant to be 5870.
To answer the questions about my version of vista, it is a legitimate copy given to me by the computer networking department of Texas State Technical College as a computer networking student (It's a pretty sweet gig... They just recently got a VLK copy of Windows 7 Professional, can't wait to try that out!)
Additionally, Killing Floor is currently the only game I have been experiencing lag in. I have so far tested CS Source, DoD: Source, Crysis, UT2004, CoD4, Fallout 3, GRiD, NFS Shift, Resident Evil 5 and Painkiller... Nothing so far except for Killing Floor.
About my CPU being the bottleneck - I was playing KF with all the video settings maxed out on the 4870 and it played smoothly, so I don't see why a newer video card with higher specs would make gameplay suffer so much.

Its probably the patch that came :\
Some people get problems some other don't
(Nice job xD)
Most people blame 64-bit and cpu bottle necking when most likely its a software problem
You have a rather good 3.33GHz Core 2 Duo
you shouldn't ever get bottlenecks past 3GHz

He's clearly from 2015. :D

A 1200w PSU? Jesus, are you planning to use quad crossfire or something?

When I first built the rig I was crossfiring two 1gb 4870 x2's, but they had too many issues (heating, graphical glitching, BSODs) so I had them RMA'd and got a single 512mb 4870, so that left me with plenty of overhead in case I decided to crossfire anything big again.
edit: <offtopic> does anyone know why steam decided to disable the search feature? I'd do a search for a post about it, but, well... Yeeah :/ </offtopic>
Edit 2: So after some heavy testing I've found that it's the Anti-Aliasing that's giving me serious problems. Anything above 2x and my framerate goes to 10-15 )=

Hi,
I also own a HD5870 running on Windows 7 64bit, and in playing several hours killing floor since the update I don't had lag issues. Only in the beginning of a wave there is something that I would call a lag for <0.5 seconds, but that was also on my old computer with a GT8800.
Only problem I have with Killing Floor currently are high map change times, which I didn't had before the update (on my old pc, while I didn't testet KF on my new one before the update).
Edit: Just looked about my AA/AF settings. It is set to 8x AA and 16x AF. No fps problems for me.

You don't need to upgrade anything else.
When I upgraded to my 4870 I also had what it looked like lag like, and very annyoing to play, especially on dead space.
All was fixed when I formated. It has something to do with drivers. If you ever change the motherboard or graphic cards (or any component that has drivers), it's best to start fresh with a format.
At least do this before going out and shell $$ for components you don't need.
And yea, your PSU is way overkill. You could power at least twice the components you have right now with that thing

Thanks for your replies everyone! I'll see if there are still any problems when I format my PC for windows 7.

So I did a clean install to Windows 7 professional (yay student discount) and the performance has dropped further. I used to get steady 60fps with everything except for AA turned up to max settings, and now I get 15-20 at best with lowest settings, and it eats up over a whole GB of RAM. WTF??
(This is still the only game with performance issues on my machine.)

Your system is straight fire!
However i noticed games that use the Unreal engine prefer Nvidia cards for a much higher minimum framerate, went from a 4890 to a GTX 260 216SP and while the 4890 was way faster the minimum frames would really bog down on a lot of my games, the 260 solved all those problems and gave a more complete experience

well it is more likely your cpu doing the bottle necking since it is only a dual core and i bet it is still at stock speed.
i will have my XFX 5870 back this saturday since my 1st 1 was bad, so i will be using the newest driver the 9.10 but from what i have herd the 9.11 beta is the 1 to use.
if you know how to over clock get it over 3ghz if you can. if not get a quad core that can.
i went from a E6850 which is a 3ghz chip that i had over clock 24/7 @ 3.8ghz and now i have a Q9450 quad core that is a 2.67ghz chip over clock to 3.2ghz
that runs real good when i had a evga 285sc gfx card. but i had a lot of trouble with that card. since i had 4 rma and got tired of trying so i sold rma #5 and got the XFX 5870 lol
i just hope rma #1 works
so try to over clock your cpu and make sure to clean any old gfx drivers and then use the newest ATI driver which is the 9.10 or if you can find the 9.11 beta use it

If it was my CPU bottlenecking there would be no performance change between switching out video cards, as that was the only component switched out. The game worked fine with the 4870 and now it's the only game having performance issues with the 5870.

Problem solved. I uninstalled my ATI drivers, used Driver Sweeper (http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Driver-Sweeper-%28Setup%29_d1655.html) to completely remove the driver and all its components in safe mode, reinstalled ATI catalyst control center suite v9.10, and all is well. On a side note, I now have my CPU overclocked to 4.02 GHz, but there's no real performance difference between the stock clockrate (3.33GHz) and overclocked, so... Dunno. I might try it on other higher-spec games to see if there's any difference. Any suggestions for this?

well as for your cpu bottle necking yer or no. it could have been or not. but like you said it would have showed up in all games.
but i think since this last patch with all the new stuff it made it very buggy to say i think.
since i have had so many game crash and pc lock up with it then i have had since i had the game.
i now see that there that KF just down load something and i hope it is a good fix for all that was buggy in from the last patch.
like the game not stopping when you exit out and the game crashing and your pc locking up or the connection to server hanging for ever and not going anywhere!!
so i would say for most its the game but i have seen so many other games that are gfx driver sensitive it is not even funny.
so watch out for those as well cause i have been there and done that to. also if you dont do the proper gfx driver uninstall and 1st you will have problem, trust me on this cause i do test them on certain site that tweak them out.
