I just found out that gamespy for this game kinda suxz because nobody will join your game unless you advertise it or something like that and steam cloud will we can just connect a play without all this hassle about players not able to find each other...><;;;
So which one do u think its better? GameSpy or Steam Cloud?

Steam is undoubtedly superior but I don't expect they are going to change it at this point.

Honestly, I think it was a pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ decision to use Gamespy over Steam. But what do I know. I've only been playing games since 1989, I don't know anything. Apparently bass-akward developers know what works.

I like it that it isn't cloud. It isn't a steam only game and it shouldn't be forced upon people who do not have steam to install steam just for playing online.
Mind you I have never used cloud so if the above is irrelevant, I am sorry.

Heh, I can't even play online. Freezes at the server list...which doesn't even show pings. Love the game though, just wish I could play it on coop.

that's cuz there's too many games and the server list tries to show all. it won't lag if u play after midnight or around there cuz there's less room. plus even if it lags, u just have to wait a couple of minutes for the list to finish. happens to me, but i just wait.

I think you mean Steamworks (http://www.steampowered.com/steamworks/index.php), not Steam Cloud.
Steamworks is better for sure.

I wait for longer than 5 minutes and the program locks up. Have to ctrl+alt+del.

Yes, because forcing EVERYBODY to use a reviled system like Gamespy is a MUCH more reasonable decision than going with what >50% of the market already has installed anyway.
Sorry, but your argument doesn't hold.

See what I did? The same as you. Just relax.

gamespy is an affront to humanity. I'm surprised the United Nations haven't issued a resolution about them yet, the amount of suffering they have caused PC gamers in the last 10 years.

I certainly do miss the in-game Steamworks features that I've become used to in TF2, Killing Floor, L4D, etc. Hell, I'd even prefer Games for Windows Live over Gamespy. Never thought I'd say that.

Gamespy3D was THE way to play FPS games... ten years ago. I would much rather use Steamworks in 2009.

GFWL would make me very unhappy. Would have preferred Steam, but I'm used to gamespy from other titles so it's not a big deal to me.

Steamworks would have been really nice. Not only the improved matchmaking and such, but also the ability to store your characters in Steam Cloud would have been great.

I just added my friends to my friends list and invited them to the game, works better. Hope they get the player list fixed.

That in mind they shouldn't force Gamespy on those who think its a ♥♥♥♥ty service. :P

I used Gamespy in the days of MOHAA when I was new to online fps(I played Quake when it was a new game but usually on a lan because I didn't have internet back then). I think gamespy went downhill when they stared using forced advertisements and you had to pay to get rid of them.
All that aside, besides battle.net I think Steam is one of the best networks out there right now.

yeah gamespy is dead..now its like whats the word unsecured....i hope that the pc version will be updated to the steam works system...X3
The real question, who the hell wants gamespy?
I've never used it before, but if your game is on steam, and you've worked with valve in the past, why not use the superior system?

Hmmmm same can be said about gamespy and all the spyware u get with it. steamcloud is free to and no spyware.

I loathe Gamespy. I'd pay more money for DLC that switched it over to use Steamworks.

Yes because using a service that will not allow us to access our single player save files when it fails to connect is so much better than what we currently have.

Everyone I know uses Steam regardless of what game their playing to coordinate games. I'd recommend finding a few steam large BL steam groups and joining some chat rooms. Although it'd definitely be nice to be able to send messages to your in-game friends.

Gamespy makes it so the only way to play online is wait til no one else is awake, or get invited to a server by your friends...
Steam is a smexy server browser :(
Is it possible for them or someone to make a patch that uses steam server browser?

I don't know what to say. Not so much to support gamespy (you don't like it, it's fine, I don't mind), but that you all so eager to have another software, steam, to be running/to use it, to play online a game that isn't Steam specific.
Of course...this is the official Steam forums so perhaps I shouldn't be that surprised lol.

How about neither? Borderlands isn't a Valve product, they could have developed their own browser system instead of farming it out to G-Spy
G-Spy is out dated (1999 anyone?), I mean who really even has the client installed anymore? Last time I installed G-Spy, it installed a bunch of bloat along with it. That was the last time and I'll never do it again.

Not worth replying to but your argument doesn't hold for real.
EDIT: Oh btw, check out what it says on the wiki lol:
Controversy
Gamespy was placed in charge of the online matchmaking for the PC and the PS3 version of Borderlands. It spectacularly FAILED!
Lmao.

Yeah, that rocked back in my Quake2 days (when it was new and I had my shiny 3Dfx card to play it) when GameSpy was just a server browser application!
I still have my "lifetime" subscription to GameSpy Arcade so using GameSpy for Borderlands wasn't too much of a change, not that I've actually played online yet (work and being sick is a game killer). Sadly, I tend to use Steam and it's community more than GameSpy these days. Perhaps 2K could add optional Steam support in a future patch for those that wish to use it. ;)

For someone who hasnt used gamespy before....
I only plan on playing online with my friends (or using LAN), and I have no real plans to play with randoms. Will this be difficult for me to do using the gamespy system?
Because it is really seeming like people are having problems with joining random games because of lack of 'advertisement'. If i plan on playing with friends at predetermined times, I shouldnt have a problem... right?

Does anyone else get the feeling that Gearbox used Gamespy purely because they don't want to *support* Steam as an all in one service.

yes
and i agree with the guy that started this thread, i want my saves and settings stored in the cloud. i finally got windows 7 like a month ago and admittedly didn't do my homework well enough but, i did do a quick search (oddly enough because there's nothing about it in steam itself..) for steam cloud, found some posts and interviews and somewhere i read that gabe said "it'll just work"
the was good enough for me and i was kinda excited to get 7 installed so i went for it, i wiped it and started fresh..lost 55 hours of borderlands
