Lightbulb Manual DLC cars unlocking tutorial

Update: Burnout Paradise Bonus Vehicle Pack is now available for purchase from Amazon.
So far this is the only place to get it and it is currently available only to the customers in the United States. If you have means to purchase that pack, please, consider doing so to support Criterion Games.

---

So after days of trying to figure it out I've finally managed to unlock all the DLC cars including Boost Special ones, and did that using my own save. :] Took me a while to figure it out, so I've decided to make a tutorial for you, guys.

Disclaimer: No copyright infringement intended. I'm only providing this tutorial because there is no other way to unlock these cars anymore. If and when there's a legal way to unlock them, I will remove this tutorial.

Unlocking DLC cars manually

Experience with HEX-editor required.
Make sure you know what you're doing.

The unlock requires both memory process modification and save file modification for it to work.

1. Save file modification.

This is the hardest part.

Make a backup of your save file just in case.

First off you need to open your save file in HEX-editor and go to the address 0001d4b6. This is where your unlocked cars list starts. Every car string consists of 24 hexadecimal numbers, so the 2nd car string starts with 0001d4ce, the 3rd one with 0001d4e6 and so on. The string itself looks like this:
Code:
00 00 36 3a 1a 0f e6 a7 ff ff 01 02 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
The first 8 numbers is the actual car ID, and the rest, I believe, is its colour etc, so it's okay if they look a bit different for you.

Now you need to find the end of the last car string in your unlocked cars list and add the DLC car IDs to the end of it.
Just look for the pattern and you'll easily know where the last car string ends and where the code has to be added. Count 24 positions from the beginning of the last car string or 7 positions after 01, just make sure you're not overwriting any part of that string with the code, as it must be added after that string.

Here's the code containing all the DLC car strings that you need to add at the end of the last unlocked car string in your save file:
Code:
00 00 51 30 cb 01 66 a5 ff ff 01 02 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 d8 13 92 02 66 a5 ff ff 01 02 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 c0 63 70 ac 03 66 a5 ff ff 01 02 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 40 9d 9b 02 66 a5 ff ff 01 02 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 36 62 56 95 8d a7 ff ff 01 02 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 80 85 74 56 95 8d a7 ff ff 01 02 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 f6 a8 08 b4 8d a7 ff ff 01 02 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 36 a8 19 b9 8d a7 ff ff 01 02 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 36 b7 c5 53 8d a7 ff ff 01 02 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 36 32 69 a8 8d a7 ff ff 01 02 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 c0 17 76 d2 59 8d a7 ff ff 01 02 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 16 63 90 5c 8d a7 ff ff 01 02 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 80 10 80 73 8d a7 ff ff 01 02 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 96 c9 e6 a6 6c a5 ff ff 01 02 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 76 b5 16 13 23 a5 ff ff 01 02 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 7f f2 16 13 23 a5 ff ff 01 02 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 80 99 f8 16 13 23 a5 ff ff 01 02 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
Make sure you're replacing the zeroes, not inserting the code in front of them, making the file bigger!

Now that you've inserted DLC car IDs you need to change the number of unlocked cars present in your save file.
The address of this number is 0001d4a2.
What you need to do now is add 17 to this number. The trick is that it must be done in hexadecimal, so you can just convert that number to decimal, add 17 to it and convert it back to hexadecimal.

Update the number.
Save the changes.

2. Memory process modification.

This part is easier. Simply follow this video tutorial made by the creator of the DLC Unlocker. Ignore the save file part as we've just modified our own one.
The problem with the unlocker is that it has the memory range address misplaced, which is why Boost Special cars remain locked. That's why you have to do it manually as shown in the video. If the DLC Unlocker unlocks Boost Special cars for you, you can simply use it instead of doing it manually. If it does not, continue reading.
Steam version's memory address is different from the retail version shown in the video. For the Steam version (as it's the one that we have), the starting address is 011150F2, the ending one is 01115167.* Fill that range with zeroes, making sure you start with 51 30 cb and end with 13 23 a5.

Since the video tutorial is unavailable, follow these step-by-step instructions:

1. Start Cheat Engine
2. Click "Select a process to open" -> BurnoutParadise.exe -> Open
3. Click "Memory view"
4. Right-click memory contents at the bottom -> "Goto address" -> 011150F2 -> OK
5. Fill everything with zeroes from 51 30 CB starting at 011150F2 to 13 23 A5 ending at 01115167

To make sure you did everything correctly, go to the game and see if any of the DLC cars are selectable. If they are, that means you modified your memory correctly. Now check if you can change the look of the DLC car before selecting it (either by changing its colour or paint finish). If you can't do anything to it, then you've modified the save file improperly. If you can, congratulations!

Hope this helps someone who's brave enough to go through all this.

For those who are lazy to modify everything manually

A modified clean save file (0% progress with all the DLC cars unlocked):
Profile.BurnoutParadiseSave

A range of modified memory addresses (to use with Cheat Engine):
BurnoutDLC.CEM (Instructions)

*I'm not aware if the addresses depend on the operating system used. They might be moved by a few positions on x86 systems, so simply find starting and ending points around the addresses I provided.
