IMO Asus makes the best laptops.
Tough to find one for under $600 with the smaller screen size though. For under $500, you're not likely going to get a very good quality machine and there will be very little to pick from. I know WM is going to have a cheapo HP for $300, but I think you'd need to camp out in the parking lot for that deal, and I'm sure it's over 14". The only thing I could find that meets your criteria right now is this:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834101185 ...and it's going to have a hard time playing many games even on low. No Windows 7 either. I highly recommend raising a couple hundred more bucks and looking at machines in the $700 realm. |

Yeah, I have to agree, even with Black Friday prices, it'll be hard to find a laptop capable of any sort of gaming capabilities for recent games. I do think you might be able to get away with $700 though. Also, 11" and 13" laptops (save the 13" Macbooks) rarely have any sort of dedicated graphics capable of gaming. I bought a 15.6 inch computer, and it's not a hassle to carry around at all for classes, and is much more likely to be capable of what you'd like it to do.

That is okay, though I personally dislike Acer's physical builds.
How bout this one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16834152117R 13 inch, and a processor that netbooks use. Not optimal for games, but you are looking for college use. edit: open box though THere is a Dell Vostro that's 13.3" Dells laptops have seemed to improve on their reputation on quality over the years, so doesnt hurt to look into it. It's got C2d CPU as well. The best one I can find for a 13.3" laptop on cheap http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834200026 |

Don't let a laptop with Vista pre-installed put you off. You should be eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 7.
Here's the thing though. It's kind of hard to help you find a laptop on a specific day of the year. I know there are some excellent deals on Black Friday, but sales can vary from area to area. And I don't know anywhere that will be advertising this far in advanced. |
