Master Strategist

So the wording is a bit confusing, especially since I was reading up to try and figure out why I haven't earned it yet and it sounds like some people earned it by getting 40 gold medals, which they did well before finishing the campaign (through doing challenges as they went) yet other people are claiming you have to get a gold medal in every single map, while yet other posts indicate that you only need to get a gold in every map type.

I'm confused. I want the achievement. I have more than 40 gold medals, so I'm guessing that's not the deal. Or is it buggy? I've read a few reports where it seemed others on Steam had earned the achievement yet didn't receive it... Any help?

I got Master Strategist after getting the very last Gold medal there was to collect in the game, which was exactly what was described.

Do you have them all? As far as I know you get it when you get Gold in everything.

To be fair, the description says 'gold in every challenge mode', so getting gold in story mode may not be necessary. Just getting gold in everything else.

It was a bit unclear, at least to me, whether every challenge mode meant every single gold medal, or at least one in each type of challenge. That said, I do not have every single gold medal possible, so I'll get back to work!

Funnily enough the last one I got was one of the early Story Challenge mode levels I think.

Finally!

I was on the challenge modes of the last two levels just before the Borderlands update came out with the *new* challenge modes!

FWIW, the achievement is awarded without having to do any of the new Borderlands missions (I've only done all gold on one of those so far).

What abut the new modes on the OLD maps? Do you have to gold in those as well now? that would make it MUCH harder to achieve now than prior to the last patch. Those poison ball games are hard to get gold.

Ive got gold on all story mode and all story challenge mode and still no achievement. Ive also got gold on most of the other types, but not all of them. Do I need just the ones with "challenge" in the mode name or what?

I've LITERALLY just earnt Master Strategist this minute after beating the final map on Super Grinder; you definitely need to beat EVERYTHING in "Awakening" now as I'd finished the challenge modes for the last map and didn't get the achievement. It was only after finishing poison core and super grinder (those are both new, right?) that I got awarded.

So yeah, seems Master Strategist is much harder to get under Borderlands. I agree that Poison Core is tricky, makes you think differently about the solution in most cases but having done all the maps I can confidently say that nothing comes close to the frustration of some of those Green Tower Only challenges!!

If that's true then it's not really fair to those of us trying to complete the achievement after the Borderlands add on.

I notice they've just added a couple more and changed the "resurgence" achievements to something else.

I play DG on two different computers. I have gold medals in all of the missions for both campaigns, but didn't get my achievement. My gold medals on maps I beat at home don't show up on my other computer, but my scores show up. Do I have to get gold on all of the missions on the same computer in order to get the achievement?

Yeah, pretty sure you do. I think information about the medals you earn are registered by the game on your computer (must be stored as profile information somewhere but I don't know where). Meanwhile, leaderboard scores are uploaded to the Steam servers; thats why you can see them regardless of which computer you are on as long as you are online. So far as I can tell, the Master Strategist achievement will unlock on your profile when the game registers that you have earnt ALL the gold medals... but of course, the game doesn't know anything about your progress on any other machine.

Now, if someone knows a way to transfer profile information from machine to machine that will be helpful but I guess you will then just have a choice between playing on from one set of medals or the other. Lots of people have talked about Steam Cloud support for saved games for this reason.

Easier, perhaps. Too easy? No.

Back when I got it we were still figuring out this whole "Defense Grid" thing. At least you guys have the ability to look at all the videos and strategy maps that are available now. And prior to one of the updates it wasn't even possible to view the map before the waves began as you can now.
