Hey, I have managed to get the Commandos 2 working in wide-screen(1280 x 800). You need to replace the provided .exe file with the one in the installation directory. The menu and cinematics will stay the same, but the in-game play will change. The first training mission is too small, so there will be excess black "fog," but for the rest it should work fine I think. Cheers!

[edit] Once you're in game, set the graphic resolution to 800 x 600.

Haha, rest assured it's not viruses or anything. I'm not a troll, I've been a member of Steam for a long time and you can check my past, thoughtful posts if you wish. Jikki is my steam account name and you can see that I own a lot of games. I will see if I can post any screenshots of the game soon.
