Updated Via Steam - Now has VIRUS!

I updated Doom Rails and now my AVG Anti Virus software says the file, Doom Rails.exe has a virus called win32/Themida.

Steam? Have you put a virus on my computer?

Also, how do I get the game to run again, without a virus?

Hi there.

When we updated Doom Rails and added better and adjustable controls, we also added some anti-piracy protection so people couldn't copy and steal the game. We used a program called Themida to 'secure' the .exe. Unfortunately, some anti virus software sees this as a threat for some reason.

I assure you there's no virus. Sorry about the confusion.

Just downloading the demo and thought I'd check the forums.

Trying to get the demo to run (from the Dream Forge website) ultimately caused me to switch from AVG to Avast for my anti-virus program. Once that change was made, the program runs perfectly. It is worth noting that, while Themidia is a legitimate anti-piracy application, it has been also been used for malware purposes. Keep this in mind when your anti-virus software throws a warning for something infected with "Themidia" and make sure to research it before bypassing anything.

To programmer_tom,

Why isn't Steam a good enough DRM system? I just purchased this game and I was apalled that I got a notice that I was "allowed" 4 more copies of the game. I immediately went back to the game's page and I re-read the information and there was no mention of any 3rd party DRM. Why doesn't the page mention anything? I purposly read the pages to make sure I don't purchase any games where the developers have added an extra layer of complxity to something that is already a DRM system.
