Retail CD Key & Steam Play

Hi, I wanted to know if I buy the retail CD version of The Orange Box, it will of course work under Windows, but will I be able to download the games in the Mac when they are available even though I have bought them via retail CD and not through Steam? Is it the same if I register my CD key to Steam than if I buy the game through Steam?

Short answer- yes.
Long(er) answer- as long as you have a game tied to your account, it is gonna work on both pc and mac (if it supports steamplay ofc)

This is the case with orange box but probably wont be the case with most other games.
