Magic Mouse scroll is insane

I noticed that you will switch weapons randomly if there is movement near to the wide-scroll zone of the mouse, also a single swipe down the zone will cause your character to switch to each weapon available quickly (TF2).

Yeah, it happens with my touch pad as well when I do a two finger vertical swipe.

Easiest way to resolve this is to disable the key binding for the weapon switching to the mouse scroll

+1 I have just learned how to do without it now.

But rather than discarding the scroll function, I'd rather see a fix to be able to use it properly.

I don't know if its technically possible. The scrolling on the magic mouse is largely controlled by the drivers.

es at Apple should fix all the driver and peripherals issues with graphic cards, mice, and so on.
Seriously, I'd like my graphics card to make an effort at all at running games and all my mouse functions working properly.

Well, seeing as these aforementioned mice work well with everything else on a Mac, that certainly means it's apples fault! The graphics drivers you are correct on, though.

As stated previously, the magic mouse wasn't designed for gaming as Source uses it.

Get a different mouse. I find that my Microsoft Optical Notebook Mouse works better for gaming then my Magic Mouse (though I tend to still use my magic mouse)

Yeah, everything Steam I do with my Magic Mouse feels awkward due to way-to-fast scrolling. Steam thinks when I move my finger half an inch I need to be at the bottom of the page.

Yeah, I changed weapon switch to tab and left arrow. Scrolling with MM was just way too fast.

Yeah, the scrolling is designed for smooth scrolling in documents, not large single step scrolling as tradionally used to with scroll wheels, so by design it's not suited for how HL uses it.

The driver mimics scrolling with momentum, much like on the iPhone.

TF2 - and most games, for that matter - were designed for mice with wheels that click or otherwise have some sort of tactile feedback. It's not a driver issue - it's the paradigm of how the mouse was designed to work and how FPS games expect it to work.

The scrolling on the Mighty Mouse is pretty bad too. I just use the 1, 2, 3... hot keys to change weapons.

Me too...

Yeah I don't having anything new to add except that I have the same issue with Magic Mouse. I just turn it off when I play also, b/c when I try to use it to change weapons I end up playing wheel of fortune and usually end up with the crowbar instead of the Pulse Rifle. Bad choice of fate when faced with an armada of zombies.
