One of the problems with RotA is the apparently random crashes. For me, it seemed to be related to dialog. I searched and searched for solutions to this problem, and I eventually found one. There is a possible fix a user posted on the Codemaster forums that works for me. It hard to find if you don't know what you're looking for so I thought I post it here as well. (Credit goes to BugMeNot who was the original poster on the Codemasters forum.) It's a simple fix:
1. Open the file baseEngine.ini located "<your steam folder>/steamapps/common/rise of the argonauts/engine/config/". 2. Change the line which reads PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=False to PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=True 3. Play. You might want to make a backup of the baseEngine.dll file first. Hope this helps you like it helped me!

Did not work for me. I have Vista 64. I was starting to like the game too. But crashing on about every fifth conversations or so...? No good. Any other possible fixes out there besides playing the game on a console?

The OP forgot to add that uninstalling OpenAL tends to help along with the .ini changes, before these changes the game crashed randonmly for me. (sometimes only 1 hour, other times 4 or 5) With these fixes though it tends to be almost non-existent (only once out of 5 extended plays)
If nothing else it is worth a shot, game is highly under-rated. Win7 64-bit |
