Same thing. This is what I get for being a legitimate paying customer I suppose?

I spend so much time talking up PC gaming to my friends. Spent literally thousands of dollars on Steam over the years. I'm just disgusted. AFK while I emo

**edited out my stupid ranting. Still PO'd though. I don't understand why I'd be allowed to buy a product that isn't in stock. This is called product backorder, and its handled pretty simply- you display a notice to the customer before charging their credit card.

Grr.

Same here and I'm as annoyed as the rest of you. I'm sure this will be sorted out shortly, but it's still bs and short sighted on Steam's part regardless.

Wait wait... You guys (Valve) didn't get enough access keys for a sale?!!?!? Are you serious? What's our wait time looking at then?

what were you aiming to achieve with this first sentence? i suggest you better learn how to apologize appropriately for a problem your customers aren't responsible for.

So you sold something you don't have? At least the pirates don't charge, and you can play it.

Maybe get the keys beforehand, or better yet don't agree to sell games that require them.

And the funniest thing; these keys are just DATA, simply INFORMATION. It's not like they have to truck in the new keys!
Should take about 10 minutes if they have a slow internet connection (poor steam ,eh? they can't afford a f@cking connection.)

And it never occurred to Valve this might happen? Do you ever actually talk to the publishers before these sales? Do they go home on the weekends and forget they are running multi-million dollar companies?

I'm very happy with Valve and Steam but this is pretty inexcusable.

When your company sells something that plain doesn't work I'd suggest that you:

a) avoid cute one-liners that suggest you don't take it seriously.
b) keep customers who have been inconvenienced in the loop so they know when they can expect to start using the product they paid for - it's been 24 hours since any communication on this.

Poor service which I didn't expect from Steam, I'll be more wary in future.

Why would you _not_ have in place a system that at least notifies people at the point of sale that they wouldn't be allowed to play the game until you get more Keys in stock? It's not like, based on the responses so far, you haven't encountered this issue in the past.

I don't mind waiting, but it's just unprofessional, to say the least.

Edit: Also, don't trust the dvm.dll file from gcw, it has a trojan attached to it.
