Controller Problems

Alright, I understand that unplugging the controller fixes the input crash issue. Here's my issue though: I want to play with a controller. Yes, I want to USE my controller. How can I set the input buttons for my controller in order to play this game with it without it crashing?

It seems that the left stick is already set, and the B button exits the menu and acts like clicking the back button, but it doesn't actually work in-game for anything.

Help, please?
