Bladed Chalice's Devmode Levels (Up to 2!)
Just another guy messing with devmode, too impatient to wait for the official level editor (and I hear devmode stages can be worked on in the level editor so...)
Anyhow! While I only have one stage right now, I plan to have some odds and ends, stages of many kinds and such. First off... Wormhole (Screenshot)(Download v2)(Video - From Schmole) At the Red Brick Hotel, all seems calm and normal...until a wormhole tears through the walls of the top floors! With Bandage Girl residing in the top floor, can Meat Boy make it to her without being sent way through the vacuum of the unknown? Levels: Wormhole - Look up Phone Home - (Screenshot)(Download) Also, those questions. How do you get lighting and camera to work well? With lighting I don't really know how to set it up specifically, while with camera I don't particularly grasp how to get it to move. I tried watching Gpro's videos and I don't think I caught the full gist of it, so any explanation would be great. Last edited by Bladed Chalice: 02-26-2011 at 04:16 PM. |

Aesthetically pleasing IMO, looks fun...but I'm at present 0% versed in custom map editing/creation/playing, to the point where I don't even know what exactly the hole in the middle does. Is it a vacuum/black hole as your...er, narrative...suggests? Or...?

Well I wouldn't be saying it did if it wasn't. And you can ignore the narrative if you want, it was just something funny that came to mind and felt like putting. Like a story in a fighting game.
Also, playing a level is easier than you think. Just involves messing with the settings a little. Here's how you get into devmode to play custom levels. To be obsoleted when the official level editor comes out. Secondly, go into "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\common" and create a new folder called "levels". Put any created levels in there. Once you do? Simply start up Super Meat Boy, then click on "load" (Make sure it highlights as if you're using a resolution that puts black bars on the top and bottom of the screen it'll mess with the cursor) and type the level name in. Then once you load the level, voila! (For the record, it's a gravity orb that pulls instead of pushes. Messing with settings can do that.) |

Sorry if that came off as condescending, certainly didn't mean for it to be.
Thanks for the assistance. I'll be sure to try the stuff out when I get a chance. In the meantime, have some rep. :P

I was shocked to find out that despite me being unable to save and load my own Super Meat Boy levels in the editor, I was able to load YOUR map! This opens up alot of options for me to test out the maps of other Super Meat Boy fans.
![]() This is quite a challenging map with a great gravity mechanic; there are a few things off putting about the map for me. Every time I load it up, Bandage Girl isn't animating, and it almost looks like there are supposed to be zombies in the map but they sit still and don't hurt Meat Boy. There's also a floating cube of red liquid in the corner and a wierd wall near it; is that how it's supposed to be? But don't worry, this is just my own critique of the map; I assume that when the real map editor comes out, this level will be a hit amongst the players if it's refined! |

Oh yeah the zombies are set piece props. They aren't meant to be enemies, they were there solely for decoration (Hotel dwellers decimated by the wormhole or the incoming saws. Silly stuff like that). If I consider making a dark world version though I will consider having actual enemies. (I'm well aware how to do so, just chose not to)
As for the red cube... *Checks Schmole's video. Thanks for the video, by the way!* ...oh no, that's not how my view showed the level... I'll touch things up and get rid of some excess walls I should have gotten rid of, then re-update the link. It won't mess with any level design though so no one needs to redownload it. Just means I'm gonna have to keep in mind there's a buffer for different resolutions... Anyhow things have been kind of busy so I haven't had the time to make another level. I do have some ideas I can make use of, though, so when I do have time I'll have something up. |

Oh, I see now; thanks for clarifying that.
If you want tips on how to use lighting: When you place a light, right click it and hold ctrl then use the mouse wheel to expand the light's radius or lessen it. Speaking of good work, check out my own custom map I made, it's right here in the Super Meat Boy forums. Last edited by Arkveveen: 01-04-2011 at 12:51 PM. |
