Swarm Arena demo crashes on start
Greetings,
I hadn't noticed ythis game before it was on today's special sale, but it seems fun. However, I have an issue. I've read a few things on this board about some problems with the game crashing on start and how it should be fixed. It seems, though, that this problem wasn't fixed for the demo, as I can't start it at all. I just get a message telling me that the game stopped working. Of course, the game isn't expensive, so I could pretty much buy it and see what happens, but I'd hate ti buy a game that I can't play, no matter how cheap. My system : Core 2 E7500 ATI radeon 5770 1 GB 4 GB of DDR3 RAM Windows 7 (64 bits) Shiploads of disk space, up to date drivers, rock-stable power supply, no overclock or overheating whatsoever... Read something about screen resolution and all, so I'm using a 1680x1050 desktop resolution in 60 Hz. Any idea ? [edit] Tried switching to several resolutions. Anything, from 1680x1050 to 800x600, fails. [/edit] Last edited by Uryel: 01-01-2011 at 03:56 PM. |

Hi Uryel, please check "my documents\dedication games\swarm arena demo\log.txt". If the folders have not been created yet, please try to reinstall the supplied DirectX version located at "steam\steamapps\common\swarm arena demo\directx\dxsetup.exe". Also please make sure your "my documents" folder is available. A terribly long path (> 200 characters) could be a problem.

Geez, you sure are reactive ! I figured what was wrong and before I could even post about it, you're already giving me advice !
"my documents" folder wasn't available. Or, to be accurate, it wasn't available to be written in, as there was a faulty cluster which caused CRC errors when ANYTHING was trying to write there. Took me a while to figure that, as I have an entire disk dedicated to documents, on which I rarely write. So the game couldn't create its log file and failed to initialise. Now that I've used chkdsk to register the faulty cluster, it works like a charm. And, may I say, I only needed a few minutes to decide I wanted to buy that game. Great job, and thanks for being this reactive. |
