Network errors

Since we cannot reproduce the network errors some users are getting, we would like to run some tests and gather logging information. One person already helped us with this, but we need some more information from more people.

So if you are getting these issues and are willing to help us with this, then please send an email to maarten@ronimo-games.com, so that we can make an appointment to try to play the game against a developer, and see if we can get some info on why it is not working.

For anyone who is willing to help: thanks in advance!

Is this about the lag that sometimes occurs between two players or about the network error with a pop-up window that returns you to the main menu?

Mainly the network errors. In 99% of the cases, lag is simply due to a bad connection, so we cannot really do much about that.

i found out that i can play the game just fine on my laptop, but get network error all the time on my pc.
both are using the same internet connection, so it dont has anything to do about that. also i deleted various software etc. but still cant get it to work. only obvious differences i see is that i use win 7 (64bit) on my pc, and win vista (32bit) on my laptop and logically different hardware.

Hmm, that's really interesting. Are both connected to your internet in the saw way? Or is the laptop wireless and the PC using a cable? Also, are there any firewalls active on the two devices?

This makes really interesting testing matter for us, would you mind helping us out by running some tests with us later on? We intend to research this issue and fix it, probably in February or March (too busy with Awesomenauts for that now, sorry), and it would be of great help if by that time you get try to connect to us and collect some logs for us. If you are willing to do that, then please send an email to joost -at- ronimo-games.com and we will get back to you when we get around to this.

I usually get the network error when
- I successfully rush my opponent,
- my opponent unsuccessfully rushes me,
- I use the dragon spell,
- I'm just about to win,
- I face the same opponent again who just declined a rematch.

In fact, I can't remember ever getting a network error that was not connected to any of these situations, but only today it has already happened three times in one of these situations.

I think all you need to do is make the match count as a loss for a player who loses their connection to Steam.

Is there any chance of having a leaderboard reset when this has been sorted out? Roughly every third game I would have won doesn't count because my opponent is a sore loser and disconnects from the internet!

Also, if I read the patch notes correctly, there was an easy way to cheat by modifying settings files, and some of the scores on the leaderboard seem fishy ("DISASTER", I'm looking at you! 426 games with 416 wins... I don't buy it, and I'm pretty good myself. The other scores in the top ten are okay, though.).

Hmm, sore losers are a bad thing.

The way to modify settings files and still play online was actually pretty obscure. I wouldn't be surprised if the guy who told us about it is the only one who ever found it. Also, it required some effort every time you wanted to play.

Nothing new?
I really want to play a few MP matches and want to buy your next game... but im afraid that it will have the same problem. And thats a pity because SaS is a really great game and I think your next project will be also great... but the MP thing worries me.

We haven't been able to find the cause of this so far, and right now we are in crunch mode for Awesomenauts, so no news on this.

It sucks that we haven't been able to find a solution, but we are definitely still interested in any new info on what is happening on your computer. So once you have it, please do let us know whether the new router makes a difference!
