The game background just changed to the expansion's background, and...all my saved games are GONE!

yep, same here. restarting steam did not help either.

Unfortunately new version can't load saved games from older one.
To access saved games I suggest previous version: http://spectromancer.com/files/smsetup11.exe (can be activated with codes from Steam).

What? You released an update to a game that deletes all save game files without warning or any kind of opt in?

You, sir, just lost my business. And it was a good game as well.

Well, the expansion costs the same as the game. I'm not buying it either way.

They're not deleted. Its just can't load them. I admit - it's a fault. This mustn't happen and wouldn't happen anymore in future.

Uninstall the expansion until you've finished your current game. It's the best you can do :-(

Been a long while since I've played this game.
Opened it up to play. New title background... cool? Was there a free update? Oh... it wants me to buy what it's showing me... and... my save games... where are they? Visit forum. Find this thread. Close game. Probably never play again.
