Game crashes to desktop on loading screen

So um yea, just like it says, i start the game,i hit Continue, the game loads, then crashes to desktop "Dead Island has stopped working". I am currently on the Laboratory area. i've read through some of the bugs and glitches, as well as fix threads and still dont understand why this is doing what its doing.
