I heard Valve are giving away free copies of Portal 2 cause of this little hacking situation. I'm not sure if it true or not, anyone know if it's actually happening?

Everyone that joined Steam prior to the breach is being granted the entire Steam catalogue, since they weren't able to post on the forums for 5 days!
There's a fake email from Gabe Newell going around about how they're going to give out free games because the forums were down for a few days. |

Just give me a hat! And it better be funny!
Like a Gabe mask for the heavy, or a Guy Fawkes mask with a bullet hole in the forehead for the medic...I'm just spitballin' But if that hat doesn't appear in my inventory within ooooh 14 days, there will be a lawsuit. Cowboy up! Last edited by Zyprexa: 11-11-2011 at 10:45 PM. |

Its more than likely that the hackers did compromise steam itself..

If that were the case, Valve would tell us (because they have to). However, if you mean the crackers (not hackers) compromised Steam by having a look at the credit card database, they yes, they did that, but we've been told of that already. They won't have made any sense of it whatsoever, though. I appreciate that this is a frustrating time for all those concerned, but understand that we will hear what happened in time. They cannot tell us more accurately until they've had full investigation made, and then they can't be too specific, as that may give out more detail making them vulnerable again. How it affects us users, we will know fully, given time. Last edited by crunchyfrog555: 11-12-2011 at 03:15 PM. |

Yep, they're giving out a game that everyone already owns. I feel better already.

I can hardly believe people are talking about getting free games. Whats more important is how safe is our Credit Card information and ANY other personally identifiable information that may NOT have been encrypted - that includes billing/home addresses, email address and any other info Valve may hold. That's worth way more than any number of games Valve may or may not give away. I'm quite surprised at some peoples priorities.
