I don't know about the multiplayer, but the game itself is quite fun. I'd say the 55 on metacritic is a bit harsh, I'd give it a 75 myself. Try the demo out if you're on the fence.

basically agree. not even sure i played MP at all, but I've played 2-3 maps worth, and no way is this game that worthless. those scores lie, anyway. look @ the game RAGE for example. probably has at least 70 MC and that game SUCKS. feel terribly ripped off.

wouldn't pay over $5 for SSBR, but, in the overall scope of my steam purchasing habits, that's not a derogatory statement at all.

Multiplayer is fun, if people play. Relatively small community for that, but try out http://www.steel-storm.com/content/?p=756 too.

We have 7.2 user rating on MetaCritic and 8.5 user score on Desura ( http://www.desura.com/games/steel-storm ). Most of the reviews on the Net have been high.

We all know how MetaCritic rates games Go by the user score.

I think it's a bit harsh, it's a pretty competent and good looking shooter.

I already have the game, but I'll be picking up the DLC, and more to put some money into the pockets of the developers than any particular benefit I expect from the new weapons it includes.

Agreed. I've played about an hour but it was pretty much what I hoped it would be. Looks good and plays nice.

User content is always fun too, I'll be trying that later.

It's a nice game reminds me of a game I used to play at a friend on his playstation years ago. Definately worth the daily price fun game

Why do people even give a damn about Metacritics still? It's YOUR opinion that matters, not someone else's. Metacritic ratings are rarely accurate on a game.

As for the game itself... Absolutely worth it for its absurdly high amount of functions and capabilities. DLC too. Unfortunately if you get high latency from US servers it's unlikely you'll be able to play properly on the official ones... Your best bet is to play with friends then.

Confirmed, it's a very well made game, it's just a shame for the lack of Steam Cloud feat, but maybe it's just me that would like to se that feature in every single game

The score seems low in comparison, there are worse games with much higher scores but there are also better games with lower scores. But that's Metacritic for you, the average is only a very small indicator of the actual quality of the game - even more so with indie titles that are only reviewed by a hand full of publications.

That said, I think the criticism it got in the reviews is mostly justified. It's a simple action game that doesn't deliver more than it promises.
As with just about any small indie title, don't by this for the multiplayer unless you have friends to play it with - the community is basically non-existent.
There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the single player but it felt a bit bland an repetitive in my personal experience. A game without any highs or serious lows.

If you consider 50% "average" than the score would be justified, it's a pretty mediocre game that doesn't add much to the genre - it's "old school" at best. That said, if you like the genre and have already played most of its more stellar titles, it's still money well spend.

I love how active the developers are on these forums (although they overdid it with the stickies, that's just madness) and I'm still hoping we'll eventually see achievements and cloud support in this game. This is a game where some well thought out achievements would notably improve the experience for me, shame they are still missing. But since the devs appear to be busy with their next title, I wouldn't hold my breath.
